Just went and bought another 2 more pieces of Pink Dayi today.

Then got myself this stainless steal canister and immediately broke 1 piece and put it inside. This size is just nice for 1 beeng.





Now, people would say that this is not the most ideal way to store puerh as it needs to have air but the teaseller said he has tried storing y97 zhang xiang in this stainless steal canister vs zisha canister and he said stainless steal has better flavor and aroma... so here I am giving it a try with pink dayi. I have taken some out and store it in a beeng box and will taste both in the near future...

PS: His theory could probably be right for aged puerh... but y97 / pink dayi are midage pu... so will see...

Few days ago I bought this, 2003 勐海云梅春茶 (aka 2003 Meng Hai Yun Mei Raw / aka 2003 Pink Dayi Raw) claimed to be specially custom for Taiwan.



And since then I couldn't get enough of it, so I went around asking and getting opinions from diff experience tea drinkers from different group/shop on the it.

Feedback are that it is good mid-aged puerh raw that has the good strong camphor (zhang xiang) taste that not all tea will end up having. Those that have tried y97 (KLP2) said pink is quite similar. I even brought the y97 and pink for other tea drinkers in another tea shop to test and the conclusion is the same. Pink is quite similar to y97 but younger and with some aging it would be better.

Some that have tried Menghai Big Yiwu Tree 1999/2001 (pic below) says that Pink has the similarity to the taste.

Now, why is this not hot seller and some says probably fake? Two reasons...

1) Cause pink is not listed in any books/magazine/net. I managed to find some info on Yun Mei on the net, but it is purple colour y2003 also. Look at the picture below (purple) and above (pink), it is of the exact same wrapping and wording except the colour

2) It does not come with the typical Menghai/Dayi back wrapping

Then a senior pointed me to a lot of old Menghai/Dayi back and asked me to see for myself... are these all fakes?

















I was quite convinced already that I would buy more regardless real/fake, I liked the taste and will buy it for drinking. Before I make the purchase I asked my seniors, what other tea with the pink price tag that has the same kind of strong camphor taste. After some thoughts, they couldn't come up with the next best.

So finally, I went and bought 1 toong, which add up to total of 10 (unopened) + 1 (opened) pieces.


I will buy some more of this progressively whenever I have more funds. This is not the end...

Were a lot of the older beengs wrapped by hand? If so, would it be surprising if different people wrapped them different ways...?

(I have absolutely no idea on this topic, which is why I ask...!)

Either way, looks very interesting... and it's always good to get a hold of a tea you like that others don't seem to quite appreciate.

I am also confused about the olden days menghai/dayi wrapping inconsistency. But the typical wrapping as per they say should be as per wat shown above. The curve on the back. But some of the tea shown above has the typical menghai taste, so right taste vs wrong back wrap. I may need to check on this topic with few more seniors.

I have put some effort to make sure this pink is a real good mid-age tea value for money cause it is not cheap but still affordable. Camphor (zhang xiang) taste is the taste that people here would like to have in their puerh and is usually sought after. Not all tea will turned up having Camphor. So I wanted to make sure it is the best for the money worth and the taste is right... and my conclusion is per the story above. I like it, ppl like it, tea is good

2009 Dayi Teabag Ripe - Made from 1 year (y2008) old material.

2000 YinHao Lincang Raw - We have tasted this many times and we find that this is a good tea. Taste has gotten smooth and has Camphor (Zhang Xiang) taste. Price is not very cheap but still affordable. I bought some to test @ home. If it good, will topup moreeee. Save me 10 years of waiting for my other new tea to age.

It is a good tea that is not time to drink/enjoy now and probably too young to tell the difference yet, which is a common thing with Dayi tea... a lot of them taste the similar when new, but as it age the taste changes to it's own identity.
