My "Tempest", SO13W4, as seen in the Tempest thread.
It became an instant favorite as soon as I unwrapped it. I absolutely love it! :D
It has joined its ever growing family

I know very little about Hagi cups.
Can someone please tell me what they are used for primarily?

Thanks!

That is a great photo David! Hard to believe that is a shiro (straw ash) glaze. Looks like a pearl in an oyster shell.

We use them for TEA!

Well, seriously, this is up to the user. There are all types of pieces, wan of all sizes, guinomi, yunomi, chawan, etc. I buy for tea use, and for predominantly Japanese greens. Though many members use them for many types of tea.

Thanks Chip!
I guess my question should've been: what does the work Hagi actually mean?
:-D

Hagi is a city in Japan.

It is quite common for a particular "type" of teaware, etc. to be named after a city in Japan where the craft originated (although sometimes the craft was introduced from another country, Hagi has roots in Korea ... long story) and is practiced.

So, there is Hagi-yaki, Arita-yaki, Tokoname-yaki, etc.
