On a less serious note, I just finished off some of the sencha powder from kaburagien. It has a darker, more roasted flavour and a pretty rich sweetness, though it's more like a mugicha kind of sweetness. I like it okay as just something to drink on a lazy day.

have fun teafriends. :)

Maiko Kinari Shincha in the house!
Dry leaf looks spectacular!
First impression is very fresh and grassy. I'll report back when I've had a few more sessions with it.

I am bending the goal I had to get under 200 grams of 2011 Sencha before I drank any 2012 Shincha, but you got to enjoy stuff on your birthday right? So 2012 Kirameki.

Happy birthday Adam, tell us how it tastes. I should be receiving my first batch of shincha any day now, YM from O-Cha, I am down to about 50 grams of 2011 sencha and plan to get it down pretty fast. I have a big order from yuuki-cha coming and I want to be fully primed for it.
though lately I have mainly been in the mood for matcha.

My green for the day was some matcha followed by some sencha from hojo.

I am quite thrilled with the Kirameki currently. Very fresh and clean tastes, and the first infusion was so refreshing. All in all through 3 infusions so far, I am quite thrilled at how nice and easy this is to drink, with just enough flavor to hold my attention but next to no bad flavors to speak of.

I broke my New Years Resolution not to purchase shincha and ordered a bag of Kirameki from O-Cha. After a few experiments with time, temperature and quantity I got 3 delicious steeps out of it today. If I wasn't cursed with this ubersensitivity to bitterness I might have kept going.

I have quite enjoyed them, especially samples 3 and 4. Although my first run through a few of them did seem a bit potent, but my first run through most of them I was in an end of the semester rush, so not quite as patient in letting the water cool enough.

YM from O-cha. It's how I remember good shincha/sencha from years ago when I lived with a Japanese family.

Also just received my YM from O-cha... I said I would give it another try and so I have, and it is everything I expected it to be. I wish I could be as impressed with this offering as everyone else. The tea its self is very high quality and the flavor profile is what I would expect from a deep steamed Yutaka midori. It's just that I don't get all that excited about fukamushi and the combo of yutaka midori fukamushi is even less to my particular tastes. It's very fresh and green, has a very yin like character which is refreshing.
I love umami and savory flavors so I will give this points for those. One thing that strikes me as odd is a heavy sweet flavor in the finish, almost syrupy. It's cloying and becomes a bit much for me at times. I will give this tea it's 100 grams of attention but I do not see myself ordering it again. especially when their are organic ( as well as pesticide and synthetic fertilizer free) versions available.
