I bought this teapot from a shop in Taichung Taiwan. It was very heavily used, almost black inside and out. It took a lot of scrubbing and boiling to get it clean. (The pictures are of it right after I cleaned it)

The lid fit is perfect and doesn't dribble. It is a single hole design, and I believe 150ml.

So far I have been using it for Sheng pu-erh and have been very happy with it. It has been a joy to use, as I can very easily pour it with one hand and it brews some good tea. The lid almost seems heavy?... as it drops down in fairly quickly. I'm not sure if you can see in the pictures, but it has some black specks and gold specks. Anyway, I was wondering if you all could give me a little more information about it!

I think it is very good material and above average craftsmanship.



A good buy for larger groups.

Unfortunately I was clumsy with the lid. I repaired it with silicone adhesive.

Clay: Hei Ni. Low-Medium Fired.
Size: 70 ml (100 ml big brother and 60 ml little brother in last pic)
Age/Year: 1980's.
Walls: Medium Thickness.
Pour: +/- 4 sec. No drips. Amazing lid fit.
Tea Pairing: Brand New (Still testing but showing great results with young adult sheng)
Info: After seeing the many posts on here about Hei Ni, I was intrigued to find out more info about this particular clay. For me the best way to learn about a specific clay type (besides asking you guys) is to purchase a few different teapots made out of it and test it with various teas that I have grown accustomed to for comparison against the way other clays brew the teas in question. I got lucky with my first Hei Ni pot purchase because I knew nothing about clays back then but took a shot in the dark and it ended up being a wonderful three legged shui ping that brews great old sheng. Wondering if there were multiple sub-types of Hei Ni or how different firing levels on it could alter the clays basic brewing qualities, I went ahead and purchased two new Xiao Pin Hei Ni Shui Pings; one 70 ml & one 100 ml. Supposedly one of them has a grey base color and the other has a black base color so perhaps that will show differences in brewing, although I'm not 100% sure what that even means for a yixing teapot. I have only tried brewing DHP AAA from JTS, and two younger aged puerhs in it (88 Qing Beeng and a mystery cake I bought from a friend that tastes similar but older than the 88). The Hei Ni clay is very porous, even though there is a distinct metal sound when the lid is tapped it still absorbs quite a bit of off flavors, which is right up my alley. It really eliminates whatever traces of youth remain in these young adult puerhs and focuses on thickening the mouthfeel without sacrificing anything important. Although I rarely drink puerhs younger than the 88' I do have quite a few teenage puerhs from around 96' to 88' and the 70 ml seems to be a perfect fit. Still testing the 100 ml.

I was going to comment on this pot and wasn't sure about the clay but I'll take a shot. To me it looks like it could be one of a few different things. It could be Tiao Sha Hong Ni/Modern Zhu Ni (Hong Ni/Modern Zhu Ni with sandy particles mixed in), or it might even be Jiang Po Ni based on some other examples I have seen.
