Great little (?) Noutomi Drax!
Please do Drax. I think in either Green Tea or hmmm ... stick it in Green Tea, I can always move it.
The OP can be edited to add words and phrases. Sort of like a glossary and translation of terms.
Please let me know if I can assist in any way.

Re: The unofficial/official HAGI topic!
yes! i tried some searching last night on the japanese site using gogole translator..results were..uhh..mixed. lots of stuff though..but prices didnt seem much different than what i see on the english sites overall? I am probbaly missing somethingcccp80 wrote:Drax,Drax wrote:Yeah, I was not satisfied with Rinkya's search enginge. I could never find anything using English, so I do all my searching directly on the Japanese site in Japanese.
Hey Chip -- if I were to come up with a list of Japanese tea-terms (listing Japanese and English) for reference, 1) would that be useful? and 2) if so, where would be the best forum to post it?
that's a great idea!
I'm still lost in all the names and terms when it comes to Japanese tea culture.
Please, educate us!
Re: The unofficial/official HAGI topic!
Okay, I've posted a glossary list over here. Please check it out and let me know what you want me to add.
Ian, from what I've seen, the items can really vary wildly in price. If you factor in the unfavorable (at least, for the American dollar) exchange rate and all the fees, then yes, you might be better off elsewhere.
The selection is probably the biggest difference. I've seen items that I haven't seen when looking at the usual places. But I wouldn't say there's an untapped treasure trove there... I'm often surprised by how much isn't there...
I happened to pick up some books and what-not, so it's easier for me to tack on some cups and what-not while I'm at it.

Re: The unofficial/official HAGI topic!
After having used my Seigan Blue Ippuku-wan for a little more than one month now, I love it even more than i did when I first got it.
It just seems like I can't be bored with it.
But I really can't say that I have seen much progress in the crackles, only in some of the small holes. has anyone here who has an Hagi with Seigan blue glaze seen any progression in the crackles in theirs? Not that it matter much but would be interesting to hear from someone who has used it more than I have.

ive my been using my big blue (in my avatar) since February.. that glaze is solid! if i look real real close i can see some very very fine crazing lines in the glaze but hardly anything really obvious fron staining.... conversely my white eiichi ive been using for 2 weeks and its highly progessedFredrik wrote:After having used my Seigan Blue Ippuku-wan for a little more than one month now, I love it even more than i did when I first got it.It just seems like I can't be bored with it.

Seigan Blues seem to resist the crackles much more than some glazes. I think it is just the nature of the beast. Hagi SO 5 which is a Super Oni Hagi clay (very rough sand/clay) does however ...Fredrik wrote:After having used my Seigan Blue Ippuku-wan for a little more than one month now, I love it even more than i did when I first got it.It just seems like I can't be bored with it.

Re: The unofficial/official HAGI topic!
Fredrik,
I own a few Seigan Blue pieces, but I must say only the ones that I have had the longest and used excessively over the course of a year shows any sign of staining. The staining though is still rather light, and more of a light brown in the cracks than the "black/gray" color that usually appears in white hagi-s cracks.
