What I appreciate about many, if not all, shyrabbit's pieces is their subtlety. The pieces have interest, variety, and yet also do no overpower one. His pieces are often understated and yet complex and elegant. In effect his pieces are a bit like the paintings of Ni Zan, subtle, empty, yet full; they don't attack one's senses but allow a lingering gaze.
His work reminds me of this passage from Francois Jullien's In Praise Of Blandness: "The greatest work of art is the one that will at first be overlooked, the one nobody will even notice." Such a work is the expression of an equilibrium in which "the most contradictory qualities...breathe" in unison. Just as with the bland work of art, it is necessary to "contemplate [classic works] over a long period," "for them to surrender their deepest significance," "so secret is their inner vibration." Then, behind their "apparent aloofness" one may discover "their most exquisite quality": their "reserve." (Francois Jullien, In Praise of Blandness)
Blessings!

A stunning blue/tenmoku mug from Ray Morales on his Etsy, already snagged by some lucky duck.

The potters mark looks like the one on my other Chawan (Eichi Kato). After scrolling through the chawans on ebay and other sites it seems he is rather popular for the $20-200 range.
