Super nice hedge apples ...

Had matcha in the one brown interior H. A. Had to prepare it in a seperate wan, then poured into the Hedge since the since is a bit small for a chawan. But man, the matcha reallllly popped with the dark brown interior.

Thanks Chip for the matcha report. Seems I need to double the size of the hedge apple bowl if one is to be able to hold matcha preparation. I think once I am back the studio I'll play with that.

New Tea Bowl!
I am finally getting around to posting a few of my hedge apple tea bowls. Here is an image of my wiggle blue ash child.

Royal Tea Culture is a name I have given to a series of tea pots, tea cups & all things ceramic, made for tea. It was joining teachat that got me started.

I began researching the tea ware of Japan, Korea and China. They were all so lovely and refined. I found myself wanting to make those things. Yet, there was no honest way for me to make "copies" of those things. As a result, I began to ask "What can I make that is unique to me and to my culture?" I decided I could create new territory--a different land born of my own experience and imagination. That way it would truly be mine. Hence RTC. In this series, by my decree, the pots must live by certain rules.
1. The pots are to be unique and reflect their maker, her culture and location. (ie hedge apples, surface marks and glaze surfaces all created from things in my location)
2. Mark(s) of the maker, tools, and the process of making form and surface are to remain.
3. In the making of these pots the maker is to slow down, get off the wheel and make these pots quite directly by hand.
4. These pots for tea are required to function in spite of their character.Old armature now mark maker.

Here is one of five RTC teapots I pulled from the kiln today. It is white stoneware with corn kernel ash exterior. Interior is white liner glaze. I've yet to list this one in my etsy shop. Details later.

You got nice colors from this ash. Is it only ash? We use to use ash from corn husks and it was runny with green drops and lines. This is what I like on using ashes: So many possibilities and variations...

Pretty much only corn kernel ash which is quite different than wood ash and the ash from herbs (including corn). I had it tested and found it has phosphorus in it. I think that is what gives the metallic flashing which occurs (reduction firing only). I will be testing more minerals with it though as this is a very quirky and cantankerous glaze. I end up putting wads on the pots glazed with it because it behaves like a salt/soda firing.

Hedge Apple with exactly 4ounces of matcha in it ... premixed in a Korean version of a Yuzamashi.
