Opened up the Tie Kuan Yin, without measuring, filled up the pot 1/2 with the leaves and started. I am not sure did I overdosed myself. I am impressed by the sweet taste coming out from this. My whole mouth and saliva is filled with the Tie Kuan Yin sweetness.

I will measure it next time and retry again.

As one often is in KL :!:

You seem to be addicted to the pretty packaging :D

Of all the Oolong that I have purchased in KL, the ones in pretty packaging usually turn out to be the most bland and unexceptional.

The ones purchased from recommended 1 man operation shops by other Tea Enthusiasts, are usually loose in large churns - packaged for you there and then when you buy them -

they are usually 1/2 the price or less and 3 times as good or better to drink.

With the possible exception of Hojo - I would say "Stay Away from the Malls!"

Was it Purple Cane that you bought the Nicely Packaged Si Da Ming Cha from - I hope these are better quality!

I rarely step into that that shop cause they are known to be selling tea far above the value it is. So you are right :D

And you are right also about me attracted to nice packaging

I guess I really did overdosed myself. The pot is so full that the leaves didn't get to expand

Life has changed since things happened to my son. We no longer go out together to Mall, so I have long not stepped into Malls unless necessary.

Anyway, the one I was at is at Mid Valley. Dropped by Hojo's shop also. Ms. Hui is no longer working there since Feb. Not much teapots on the shelf either. Nothing new since I last visit them last year. Looks quite cold in the shop. I hope their biz will do well.

This evening

Zheng Wei Guan Yin (Spring 2011) from Wanling UK

http://www.wanlingteahouse.com/product. ... pring-2011

True or Original Taste, Zheng Wei, is selected for its classic flavour. Compared to other Qing Xiang Tie Guan Yin teas in the Wan Ling Tea House collection, Zheng Wei has a slightly sour bite to it which adds an interesting twist to the flavour.

Did not notice the sourness, or did not recognise it as sourness.

I did detect a seaweedy / sweet crabmeat element that I like.

An enjoyable addition to the Wanling UK range for me, maybe not for those who prefer gentle, fragrant TGY.

It is good, not IMO as good as the Jiu Jiu Jiu but an excellent aperitif before moving on to the Jiu Jiu Jiu!

8gm in a 120ml yixing (yellow division clay) water slightly cooled from boil (30 seconds)
20 seconds nice introduction
35 seconds building in complexity
1 minute - seaweed/crab disappearing into background, body and layers of complexity
2 minutes notes of hay and minerals
3 minutes as before :D

Bai Ji Guan...(2009)
Dragon Tea House (Gordon)
7g in a 110 ml one hole.
This is an exercise in alkaline chocolaty goodness. Nice change of pace from all the sheng pu this week.
It has a great level of roast that highlights bitter cocoa, but the flavor comes wrapped in a subdued envelope. Later brews going to sandalwood. It has been about a year since I last drank it. Time has treated it well. Yummy.
I feel so relaxed.

That Bai Ji Guan sounds good :D - I have not noticed any cocoa notes in the BJG I have been drinking, will look out for different things next time I brew some.

Sometimes it is so difficult to put a finger on what you are finding, then someone else hits the nail on the head.

I think BJG is normally / traditionally given a medium O&R - am I mistaken - or this the whole point of you showing us one with extra O&R?

Does this one lead it more up the DHP and TLH path or is it still more subtle?

Yes, it is more than usual.
No, it is not subtle. The base leaf is very good, because it has stood up to 20+ brews and still going.

Have to refill the kettle to continue a splendid session with Honey Orchid Dan Cong from TeaHabitat. Mmm......so nice in the little Chao Zhou pot.

Earlier today, drank a quart of cold-brewed Huang Jin Gui. I set up 2 quarts brewing for tomorrow--it's going to be hot again here.

I am drinking Wu yi Yan Cha. I have no idea what variatal it actually is. It is sea dyke brand. It is very heavily roasted with almost all broken leaves. Its is more than likely just the scrap from producing better grades thrown together and roasted beyond recognition and sold as generic Yan Cha. I think I will put the tin back in the cupboard and give it a coup;le years for the roast to fade and see whats left.
