Cool staining on that little shiboridashi!
and I mostly rinse my Hagi in hot water, but every now and then I take a dry towel or paper towel to the damp rinsed Hagi, and rub off all the brown that will come off easily.
My granite yumoni looks ready for this today....

From what I can tell its a choun sig on the box there.. and from what ive seen on the intarwebs looking at susumu and choun sigs on boxes. But im sure some of you choun family owners out there can verify tooChip wrote:Shuweet Ian! I think that one deserves a name! So it was made by Choun?

So Ian, I am a bit confused by this.... it is hard to tell due to the carving, but I thought the Choun artists make most of their pieces by pinchwork (tebineri). But that one looks quite wheel thrown.
So what impression do you have from it in person?

I love it..its carved obviously and yes wheel thrown. but so are a lot of cups ive seen from the Choun Kilns..like the kakewake's on Zencha and AN as well as the blue aohagi's on AN are wheel thrown too reallyAdamMY wrote:So Ian, I am a bit confused by this.... it is hard to tell due to the carving, but I thought the Choun artists make most of their pieces by pinchwork (tebineri). I saw a cup very similar to this style when I was perusing the Japanese auction sites, though I definitely like the color of the glazing on this one better.
In any case, it's definitely Chouun -- that "oval" shaped symbol in the bottom left is his name -- the Japanese kanji for 'bird' and 'cloud.'

I didn't notice that but yes that does look like the stylized kanji for tori/chou and kumo/un. Huh...you learn something every day.Drax wrote:

Biwa update:

The outside looks more or less the same but the inside is starting to show some interesting changes.
