Why am I not surprised?

Since this is apparently a time for shocking confessions, I'll add my own: Whites rocked my June and pretty much every month.

Oolong in general. I was especially digging on the Black Dragon I picked up from Tao of Tea. Cheap tastes, yay.

Going to say good riddance to a very wet June (~6.5 inches of precip) and a reluctant hello to a so-far-pretty-wet July with a cup of Qi Zhong in a moment.

Ha! And when I saw the vote for WHITE, even before your post, I smiled and said Trey must have voted.
:)

In my cup this afternoon another favorite of the '09 OOLONGS
2009 Spring DaYuLing From FLT

it was my 2003 7581 shu puerh that I pulled out of the closet for a test run. I was extremely impressed with it.

As a surprising twist from my usual vote of green, since I ran out of the Fukamushi Sencha Supreme, I voted for black as my June favorite. I had reordered the Organic Monk's Blend from the New Mexico Tea Co early in June and it still is my absolute favorite black tea. When brewed correctly, it is strong without being bitter, naturally sweet, and all around awesome tasting. I think I will go make a cup of it now.

Today I have a difficult choice: a taste test between Imperial Tea Court's Keemun Xiang Luo and their Imperial Keemun Mao Feng!

I'm drinking both and comparing -- flavors are different but perhaps the Xiang Luo a little more interesting, with a smokey component and lots of flavor/scent bubbles as I pour the water into the gaiwan! Although the Mao Feng has that traditional keemun flavor strong strong strong... mmmm A tough choice. But yummy!

YM Shincha from O-Cha gets my vote. This year was my first foray into Shincha territory. Now I need to wait 10 months to do it over

Visited an authentic Japanese teahouse today at Fairmount Park near Philly called Shofuso with Mrs. Chip. It is open for tours and tea ceremony demonstrations. They had just finished a rather casual Tea Ceremony demonstration. The teenaged caucasian summer help threw around 9 chawan into a dishpan and started swishing the whole dishpan around and around as the chawan clunked against each other.

While out shopping at <Teavana>, stopped at a Tokyo Bay Japanese caf line type restuarant. I saw a box labeled Sencha, and asked for "sencha" ... the server looked very perplexed, I guess she does not hear people ask for sencha much. She needed further guidance, "tea please." Anyway, it was lousy teabag fare of a brand I never heard of before. Bleh. But it did cure my caffeine WD headache.

Picked up some very nice Washi canisters. Although we managed to remain free of sales assistance, I could not help but overhearing the blah blah blah of the associates as they talked to customers about Silver Needle being the rarest tea in the world, and their tetsubins being the best teapots for brewing teas. I sensed they are not permitted to improv at all based on a customers needs, instead just diving in repeatedly with the exact same spiel.

Tea adventures are always good, even if the tea is not so good... sounds like you and Mrs. Chip had a fun day together anyway - and thanks for sharing it

Thanks Janine, wanted to get to ChinaTown actually but ended up spending too much time at the park checking out the "tree tour."

Got home to a box from Rishi this evening, and although it was late, I could not help but break open one of their new shincha. I opened a bag of Hon-Yama asamushi. At $23 per 100 grams, this is really quite good. It is milder that other asamushi I have had this year costing much more, but was very pleasing and quite enjoyable. 3rd, 4th, and 5th steeps were remarkably sweet.

Also, kudos to Rishi for very good brewing directions as well. I followed them except I did preheat my kyusu.
blah blah blah SENCHA blah blah blah!!!

Oolong heaven

by Intuit » Jul 1st, '09, 22:47

I'm in the middle of exploring oolongs, so that's a logical vote for June.

+1 Organic Monk's Blend (must reorder this tea soon)

+10 "back to physics...weee!"

Physics is phun.

Four Seasons Oolong in my cup. Bit late for me, long day.

My favorite in June was definitely my very first Pu erh cake. I had a blast ordering it, waiting for it, getting it earlier than expected, opening it, photographing it, learning how to remove tea from it, and, of course, drinking it.
I really enjoyed throwing some photos on here as well.

Like this...

I learned a heck of a lot, and I'm never made to feel like a fool when asking questions here :)

Hahaha yeah physics is phun. Bit confused with some of the material lately though, almost too "abstract", electrostatics! It'll click soon.

Ended the day with....yepppp!!! another cup of FF darjeeling risheehat 09, a friend wanted to try it out.
