No fixed budget, try to remain sensible. I restock my regulars, spend a little on tea exploration, and keep a lid on teaware purchases, just what I really need.
Chip and wife probably spend waaay more on their pets than on tea, correct Ms Chip?
Which of you has the feline addiction?
Oops, almost forgot: my daily Taiwanese oolong in the cup.

We are both animal lovers and live in a very rural area. All of our felines are rescues, neither of us can 'just say no!' As a matter of fact, Chip rescued our first kitties, complete with injuries and maggots years ago.

This is the nicest thing I've heard all week. I love that you are rescuing guinea pigs. They seem like such an overlooked animal.Proinsias wrote:I'm not much use at saying no and my other half is pretty good as saying please, please, please. I have just spent the whole weekend building and converting a garden shed into guinea pig paradise for the rescue girls we have and some of the foster ones on the way.

Sounds familiar.

My Budget for the year
was supposed to read
Only buy what I can afford!
I am over budget!
I usually love Sal's photos - but have to disagree with those who are delighted with his recent offerings!
In the context of today's topic only
I am sorely in need of a collection of litle tea friends that look as fantastic as the ones that Sal owns, or borrows. And I must keep a tight discipline on my expenditure.

TEA ONLY (per topic) spending has been pretty reasonable so far. Less than expected, but this is certainly at least partly due to the many tasting/samplings this Spring.
Began the TD with Takumi from Zencha. This Yame shincha is quite good indeen. SweeTea had her cuppa while Wulong was busy showing off her "hooks" that need major trimming.

My budget is like Herb's and like him, I am overbudget for the year. Also, I have a huge project going right now.

This is the "free" part. My husband and I have been removing this deck.
It's about 16' x 30'. About 75% of the screws still lift with a little effort from a variable speed drill, but I still have to use a prybar on every board due to at least one stuck screw. Lots of work but it will be so nice once it's done.
We'll probably try to offload the boards on craigslist, but if that doesn't work, disposal will be expensive.
I will probably hire someone to come dig out the footings, and also to spread the topsoil we will have brought in.
So I'm attempting to slow down the tea-spending. Chip's special deals are NOT HELPING.
Still, the entire project (including landscape plants) should cost, at maximum, about the same as refinishing was going to cost.
In my cup this morning... nothing yet. Bah. I ran out of iced tea.

I think I've spent more on leaves, but technically it's not me that's doing the spending.
My grandmother brought over $200 worth of Oolong tea, pretty high quality stuff. I've started on Japanese teas, which I find are pricier than Chinese teas, and add on the international shipping charges...
I wish I spent more on tea than tea-ware though

Whoops! me too. One combined budget. I'm probably right on target for tea this year, maybe a touch over. I try to buy what I can consume and when I can afford it. I currently have a bit too much white peony, so I'd better get to using it for iced tea I suppose.
Maybe my brains have baked in the sun and that's why I misread the question.

No real tea budget for me--I just try to keep it reasonable. Besides books, tea is probably my biggest non-necessary expenditure. Well, I consider them necessary, but they're not food, rent, pet supplies, etc.
In my cup: the results of yesterday's home roasting experiment using BirdPick's Premium Oolong. It is definitely improved, though still not great. The brewed tea smells a bit sweet and tastes a bit roasty now. After tasting it, I think I might do another round of roasting on it, since I only gave it about 40 minutes on 'cook' in the rice cooker. The worst that could happen is that I ruin a very cheap tea.
