The Olden Days

It's a second flush Darjeeling. In the early moments of infusion, this one does look suprisingly pink.

After thinking about it for a few hours and after Herb_Master opened the door to some very old music, I would have to say I rank Cream pretty high. The Canadian duo Ian and Sylvia are sometimes up there and Steve Gillete made one album, but it was good and I really liked Koerner, Glover, and Ray, and of course there's the Beatles, the Stones, Willie Colón's band and anyone who plays with Rubén Blades or Celia Cruz, oh and El Grupo Folklórico y Experimental Nuevayorquino rocks. But if I start going on like that, the list will include too many to be meaningful, so let's just mention Cream and stop there.

My son (15) went to his first late night (1:30 am) band event last night with a friend and her parents. He saw The Duppies.

A nice session last night with 2006 Six Famous Tea Mountain 75726 shu ... this stuff has developed a surprising level of complexity and interest.

So far today, Organic White Peony from Jing UK.

I hope everyone is having a nice Sunday.

The Eagles, without question... my all time favorite band. I liked them from my teen years, and was disappointed when they broke up. I listened to their music through the years until "Hell Froze Over" and they reunited. I still remember in vivid detail the feeling of sitting in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta with 70,000 of my closest friends, and watching the stage light up as they opened with "Hotel California". It was unforgettable.

I believe when you really love something in life, you should do so with passion and zest, and that's how I am with the Eagles. Some would call it over-the-top, I call it passion... same with my family and tea and Harry Potter, and Disneyworld. (Perhaps soon I will have to add Hagi and handmade yunomi to the list?) Love what you love, and give it your all. As a result, I've now seen the Eagles in concert a total of 13 times. I've met Joe Walsh in person, and my best friend got to meet Don Henley this past summer but I missed that one. :( I think their music is timeless, their sound is hypnotic and unique, and many of their lyrics are pure poetry that mirror the whole life-is-art-is-life philosophy. They speak my language.

Long answer to a short questions... The Eagles, most definitely. They have touched my life. As has this wonderful Glendale Handmade Nilgiri which I thought was all gone! I found some at my mom's, woohoo!

Happy Tea Day to all,

Sarah

When not listening to predominantly Early (including medieval dance 'bands' - LOL) and Renaissance period music, I'm tuned into Jazz, Blues and World (especially Celt) music. I put 'other' because I don't care for 'bands', in the modern popular music sense.

Edit: Almost forgot to mention Ambient music (not the schlocky New Age stuff).

No-name estate Ceylon to start. Cold-brewed India White tea later on.

I said "Maybe" but in retrospect probably no. I like a lot of different rock, jazz, C&W, and new age, so I really can't be pinned down on this. 8)

Interesting answers, but I am not surprised of course!

This is hard to answer with just one group. I would break this down into sub genres and answer mostly classic or older rock types including BUT DEFINITELY NOT LIMITED TO Moody Blues, ARS (Atlanta Rhythm Section), Lynard Skynard, Talking Heads, The Doobies, and even The Cars can get my motor running.

I also quite enjoy the more Celtic/New Age style and voice of Enya ... particularly her more Celtic style chants and many blend very well with tea ...

I listen to and enjoy pretty many styles and periods. Perhaps nothing is as moving as classical, but that does not really fit into a "band classification."

But, you can offer some examples, yes?

I have three absolute favorites: Van Halen, Chicago, and Phil Collins (although I don't know if he quite counts as a band).
I'll listen to almost anything, though, except for country music (I've tried so many times and I just can't stand it!).

I LOVE The Cars! Forgot to put them on my list, along with the Rolling Stones!

A couple years ago, the "new" Cars played a concert at our local Relay for Life (American Cancer Society event). Elliot Easton and Greg Hawkes (original Cars members) were there and Todd Rundgren was lead singer instead of Ric Ocasek. They played in honor of Benjamin Orr, who died young from cancer. Anyhoo ... they were really good and brought a lot of people out to the Relay site.

I tend to listen to Scottish music...my favorites being Old Blind Dogs, Battlefield Band, Dougie MacLean and MacTalla. I also very much like the music of Susan McKeown and the way she mixes Irish and Celtic music with other traditions. For me, there's very little that can beat a wee dram shared with friends while listening to Celtic music.

I also like Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, the Byrds, Family, Jimi Hendrix, Tom Petty, and more recently, but at least a decade ago, Chris Whitley. I lived through the 60's, and was lucky enough to see a good number of the rock bands live...

No tea yet, I went on a walk looking for our dog, who we haven't seen since yesterday. :(
Oh no Geeber, your dog is lost? Oh, hopefully soon he'll find his way home!

I love Sugarland too, probably my newest fave. Not sure I have a real favorite anymore, depends on what I'm in the mood for or what sounds great after missing it for awhile. Love the Eagles, Stones, some heavy metal, classic rock, country, light opera.

If you asked me a few years ago, I probably would have had a definitive answer. Now, I love it all. Sort of like baseball. I was a HUGE Angels fan for years and years. Now I just enjoy baseball. No matter who's playing. It's about the sport now, not the team. Same for music. It's about the music, not the band.

In my cup - Jing Tea Shop - Huang Jin Gui. Wow this is excellent!

The first band name to pop into my head when I read the question was The Pixies, so I'll stick with that.

Thanks, Victoria and Chip.

We still haven't seen him, and he usually never wanders off without us. (We live in the country so he has a pretty roomy "home base") He didn't seem to be feeling well the last couple of days, kind of lackluster or depressed, and we were going to get him into the vet tomorrow if he hadn't improved. He's had a long life (he's 11) but it's breaking my heart to think that he might have wandered off to be alone in his final moments.

Oh geeber Im so sorry I hope you find him. I definatly know the feeling we once lost our little poodle for over 2 weeks before someone returned her. Just keep looking and post fliers and adds in the paper in a few days and check the pound.
