Maybe you should just turn the pot into a small planter and get a whole new pot.

I contacted the artist this morning and he said he would be willing to make a new lid for me. I'm so happy. :D

Kinda Yixing drama, long-loved old pot, cracked and broke heart, happy ending nonetheless..ups and downs, just like life..I already see the picture :D

Cyber-hugs (for the chip).

Cyber-hi-fives (for the new lid).

Ok, now I need a hug :(

Bad news: In one three day period about two weeks ago, I had 3 pieces of teaware destroyed.

My little glass pitcher/faircup was destroyed when DH overly enthusiastically shooed the cat off of the counter.

My big teapot (that I decant the family's morning brew into) developed a huge leaky crack...thus becoming unusable. I will probably put a silk plant or silk flowers in it.

A cup from my regular dishes (Longaberger) jumped out of the cabinet. The center of the bottom of cup hit the knob on the top of my little blue Den's "bombproof" kyusu. Cup wound up with a perfect BB hole...kyusu suffered nary a scratch! I've always said these dishes are bombproof...they've been our everyday dishes since our 18 and 20 year old kids were babies...whenever we've dropped a dish or cup, I've always been more worried about a floor tile cracking than the dish breaking. Now I know that that little kyusu really is bombproof.

Good news: Found a great replacement teapot for the big guy on ebay. It arrived today.

More bad news: It was not well packed and the handle is in pieces, thus rendering it unusable. Of course seller says "I'll refund your purchase price only (no shipping refund) if you pay to send it back." The price to send it back is almost as much as the refund would be and then there's the trouble of getting to the post office etc.

Maybe I should just stick with matcha for a while...

 Bummer Dreamer! Sounds like a reallly bad streak which is hopefully over.

I sort of remember seeing ebay saying something about a new buyer protection. Unfortunately I did not click on the icon to read more about it. Also paypal offers some protections last I heard.

Anyway, a good ebay seller would say send me a photo and make good on it ...

I guess it's my turn to give a hug. I'm so sorry. It's heartbreaking isn't it. At least this will give you a good excuse to go shopping.

Not acceptable. At the very least, they should be willing to accept a photo as proof that it is broken, without requiring it to be returned. If not, just let them know you intend to open a dispute, and will be submitting photos of the broken piece AND the poor packaging with your dispute claim.

If it was poorly packaged (especially in the event that the box exterior is undamaged, but the contents are ruined,) they should refund BOTH purchase price AND shipping.

So you got a new kyusu as a gift yesterday-ish, then broke the kyusu style kettle today ... coincidence?

Anyway, sorry to see this! I have smashed handles of 2 kyusu-s already, but this looks like it just snapped?

Was this Chinese ... maybe Taiwanese? Not Japanese? The handle had a vent hole, common in Chinese versions of kyusu ... right where it snapped?

I was about to fill it with hot water. The tripod stand it was on suddenly went unstable. Landed handle 1st. Wasn't at a height. Just hit a hard tiled table. What to do with the stove now
