Heh, I thought at first you meant Hagi ...Trey Winston wrote:The lower one. No question. Worse even than haggis (which I imagine is what the upper image depicts).
I am easily transported to far off lands by a cup of tea. China would be the easiest example, but Japan would not be too far behind. Perhaps a Darjeeling or Nepal.
Began the TD with a tasting of Yame Fukamushi from Den's which was quite delicious. Joining in was SweeTea while Lil Bit was just socializing.

Have you ever been experienced/transported? Uh, well I have.
Shangri-La hand rolled silver tips.
No hagis for me, but I bet the woozl would eat some.

Beam me up Scotty, a trial tasting of O-Cha's Organic Fukamushi Ooigawa Supreme. Very interesting, hard to put to words at the moment, might be the transporter lag.
Re: Monday TeaDay 1/11/10 TeaTransporter?
Sure, I often feel "transported" especially at work when a nice cup is a willing escape!
Darjeeling oolong for me this morning.

Sometimes my tea puts me in a state of mind of the place the tea comes from. Especially if I am using matching teaware
Drinking White Pear right now and it is so yummy.

I like haggis, but don't know if I would like it fried. I also like black pudding.
Haggis, neeps, and tatties! Yummmmm.
Had a cuppa' Mariage Freres Marco Polo this evening. Very good cup -- I must have gotten everything just right.

I don't think that was fried haggis, I think it was a fried candy bar, another characteristically UK food, as they tend to deep fry a lot of different items such as pizza and hamburgers not to mention the usual fish and chips.
Re: Monday TeaDay 1/11/10 TeaTransporter?
Yes sometimes I feel transported to the place of origin of a tea/teaware. Especially when Im drinking some delicious green tea long jing or sencha in my hagi yunomi it really feels like Im in a different world. I know Japan and China are much more modern than I would like to imagine but Im my mind Im relaxing In a small village where time doesn't seem to exist and modern gadgets are fa fa away

Meanwhile, I don't believe I have ever been transported. Although I suppose having tea in a sushi house is pretty close. So is sake. Hm.
Maybe if I had more trips to Japan, and tea in Japan, I would get that feeling. . . but for now, I enjoy the tea in my simple abode.
In this case, I am having a 2009 raw sheng that could strip the varnish off of wood. Woooo boy!

Re: Monday TeaDay 1/11/10 TeaTransporter?
Cool question...and fun answers!
Tea frequently transports me to a state of mind (my proverbial "happy place"
) rather than bringing me thoughts of being in a physically different place.
I would imagine that if I had memories of "taking tea" with my grandparents or parents, that those places/times would come to mind, but I'm a "first generation" tea drinker
.
Also the more "artisan" the tea and/or the teaware, the more I feel "in touch" with the people and the path that brought that tea/teaware to me. But that is more about "people" than "places". It makes me think of the mealtime prayer that my grandfather usually offered, "Bless this food and the hands that prepared it."
Today's teas: Ceylon Silver tips at home this morning. My tea buddy at work made Yunnan Imperial...oops, she used way too much and let it steep way too long...it was horrid. This afternoon/evening fuka in my sweet little blue hagi cup.

I don't know if it is a place, but more of a state of mind. Between having a vivid imagination and a knack for daydreaming, a cup of tea can easily make me lose focus on the real world. Where I mentally travel changes by the day, but it is nice to get away every so often.
In my cup is some iced Assam made fresh this morning so it was chilled by the time I got home from work.

I agree with CK, it's more a state of mind.
Nilgiri Nonsuch again today. I'm liking this one quite a bit.

Finished off my TD with some blackberry Ceylon.
Also, I was proud of myself - went through my tea collection yesterday with my roomates and we figured out what we had that no one would ever drink.. and I took it all in to the office for everyone there. That emptied out a bit of space, and definitely makes me feel better about actually buying tea now
