No, and no. Any drop in my consumption of soda and juice can be attributed to the simple fact that I like tea more than I like them. I drink whatever I fancy at the time.
Houjicha this afternoon, though I'm about to switch to some roasty TGY.
Re: Tuesday TeaDay 2/2/10 Sustitution principle?
I used to drink tea every so often as a kid and through most of college. In college (or, more specifically, when I started a job at a radio station just before college), I started up quite the coffee habit. Eventually, it got to the point where I'd have a headache if I didn't have coffee first thing in the morning. So I weened myself over to the lighter punch of tea and wouldn't think of going back now (well, I still have a cup of joe here and there, I suppose).
Started off my day this morning with apple spiced chai.

Thanks for coloring TD, Geek with your SO #8.
And welcome to the forum, KSek!
Well, I drink so much tea, that I often forget to eat ...
so tea has replaced food. Seriously, I eat less and drink a lot less high carb stuff ... but I made a spice cake yesterday, and it is almost gone, sooooo ... I cannot draw a conclusion on this subject it seems.
Began the TD with a tasting of Zencha Fuga LE, I am really liking this really inexpensive limited edition! SweeTea really enjoyed her share ... Lili enjoyed the company today.

Re: Tuesday TeaDay 2/2/10 Sustitution principle?
Tea has definitely been a substitute for a lot of things for me, all subconsciously and not recognized until just recently. It replaced my daily coffee and chocolate intake for caffeine, it replaced alcohol as my after-work drink, and it replace record collecting as my obsessive hobby.
That said, I still drink coffee and booze, I still eat chocolate and I still collect records. Though all in varying lesser amounts since I discovered tea.

Coffee and Soda/Pop. On purpose. (Well mostly, for the pop)
Actually, I hate coffee, so tea is something I'll drink when I would normally be jealous of my coffee-drinking friends.
That and pop is just horrible for you.

Congrats Killjoy, I've heard how dificult it can be to quit. I have some friends who have been trying for years and just haven't been able too.KillJoy wrote:I'm going to steal your "bold answer format" bsteele, hope you don't mind.
1. Yes, in place of cigarettes.
2. Yes, I officially call myself a "non-smoker" now.

I'd have to say No to the first question because I didn't start drinking tea for any reason other than I loved the taste but then unintentionally I did quit drinking coffe after I got into tea. I just liked tea too much and began to realize I liked it much better than coffee.
shou mei today
Re: Tuesday TeaDay 2/2/10 Sustitution principle?
Tea/tisanes replaced sodas for me. Mostly intentional, but much quicker than i expected only really been drinking for a month and have pretty much completely stopped drinking soda, i dont even crave it any more. Coffee makes me sick so i turned to soda for caffeine and some days there was ALOT of soda. Unexpectedly since i started drinking tea, my junk food consumption (both sweets, chips, as well as fast food). Has dropped dramatically.
Today all i have had is half a cup of chocolate tea, from a restaurant, left house early and didn't have time to make tea, just got home and its too late so maybe I will have one of my herbal teas after dinner.

Re: Tuesday TeaDay 2/2/10 Sustitution principle?
Hmmm, I dont think so.
Tho I was coming off of coffee (discovering it's disturbing effects on me), I was simultaneously discovering tea. So, tea was never devised as a substitute, but took the place of coffee only kind of.
Tea, I was discovering and have discovered is soooo much more, so much more.
Ikuyo matcha this morning, followed by Organic Kagoshima Sencha Sae Midori, and now Organic silver needle. Mmmm.
edit/add - Holy Tea Leaves Batman, Nice photo and new avatar GG!

@Ebtoulson: No, I've actually not heard of that band, my use of the name is just carrying it over from my Halo "gamer tag", cuz I pwn, and I'm a big dork.
@brad4419: Thanks, it was really hard the first week or so. I was seething with anger, accosting complete strangers..etc.. It was ugly. Hah. The cravings are under control now, and I'm my own mellow self again.

Yes, I stopped drinking coffee and substituted tea instead.
