Sunday TeaDay 2/14/10 TeaBrewing vessel finals?

Finishing out the TD with some more Caramel Delight and pondering what tomorrow's work day will bring... another busy week, no doubt.

OK...I had all day to think about this one. Well, no I didn't really think about it 'cause I spent 12 hours on line in the kitchen cooking dinner for every happy loving couple in the county. Glad this day is over.

If I was evacuating under the assumption that I would be returning, then I'd grab my travel tin (7" by 4" round tin, lined with an old mouse pad for protection, that holds a 4oz gaiwan, two 4oz cups, and a bag of TGY). As others mentioned, a vessel of many possibilities.

But if the building is burning (and I still had enough time after saving the "important" stuff [cat, guitar{s}, fly fishing rods, documents], I'd grab my yixing I use for oolongs. It was my first teaware that I grew attached to, and had used it almost exclusively for five years.



Started TD at 8am with copious amounts of Yunnan Gold, then had some nice Dong Ding grandpa style all day at work, and am now settling in to some Muzha TGY...and finally relaxing

... any chance of a peak at this cleaver!

Being a fan of cutlery myself, I'd like "peak" also. Odd, but I own no knives that would make my "must save in event of fire" list. My well seasoned cast iron skillet might though.

Well, if the house is on fire, and I can only grab one, I would likely go down with the house til I would finally pick one. ...

But it would be a kyusu, although some great Chawan, Gaiwanesque, Houjin, etc. makes the choice even harder. It would be a kyusu, still trying to decide which one...

I struggled, and struggled with this all day.
And, Chip - I'm with you. I'd probably end up going down with the ship as I tried to choose.
I ended up going with my Kikumaru kyusu. I think it would be very versatile for me - nails it with japanese greens, but could also do other teas. And as for matcha, most any bowl shaped correctly would do in emergency, as long as I have a chasen .
But truth be told, I would be so torn about which chawan(s) to try to save, I would be very, very hard pressed. May this never, ever happen to any of us!

Been spending the day with my dear sweetheart, we slept in, made breakfast together, exchanged flowers and cards. We had a lovely bike ride together. We just finished making a lovely dinner together for each other. Ahhh. Sigh. And the Chardonnay we chose for dinner was sublime - seriously, insanely good - butterscotch for days.

We started the teaday with matcha (mysterious, gift matcha), followed by mixing Teavana gyokuro imperial with Yuuki gokujo sencha (settle down, its' Teavana gyo, not the great stuff). Yummm, lots, and lots of yummm today.

ps - Blairsw... I've been thinking of you all day, because there have been flowers, and I am really thinking a lot about how to incorporate flowers/nature and photos of the whole chanoyu experience. Sorry for no photos today tho - relationship was the priority, not photography - by a long shot.

I definitely recommend it - it is hands down my favorite knife.
(So much so that I use it judiciously).
btw - if you're near a Sur La Table store - they'll let you use one --or a Bob Kramer, but I didn't like their Bob Kramer - too deep.

btw - if you're near a Sur La Table store - they'll let you use one --or a Bob Kramer, but I didn't like their Bob Kramer - too deep.

I love love love my Shun Santoku w/ the granton edge. i get mad if my wife puts it in the sink..
