Wow! $13,000 for a Nintendo? I'm listing mine right now!

No kidding! Is there something special about that Nintendo that I'm missing? I'd sell mine in a hartbeat for 1/10th of that price.

Me too! If there is something special, I'd like to know what! We actually still play it once in a while.

I remember my boyfriend telling me about that Nintendo.. but the price fetched wasn't for the system, it was for one of the games with it - forget which game it is, but it's pretty darn rare.

Look at this cup, it is the exact same cup in blue and it sells for 19 $, that was a big lesson for who bought it.

Just because the bid is at $19 now, doesn't mean it will close anywhere near there. When it comes to collectables on eBay, serious bidders frequently won't bid until the last 30 seconds, usually with special automated sniping software. Early bidding drives up the price, both by convincing more moderate bidders to increase their max, and by drawing attention that creates new bidders.

I don't know anything about those teacups, but the person who posted the original item mentioned in this thread seems to start all their auctions at $2, and they frequently go over $100, if you check their auction history. I imagine that in this case, both the seller and bidders knew what they are doing, especially seeing as 3 different bidders were willing to go to $1000.

About the $13,000 nintendo, its the game "Stadium Events" that was with the system that made it go so high and the main reason was because it was in the original box. I guess its a collector thing but I could think of many many better things to spend 13,000 on. Like a whole bunch of hagi ware or a car but probably the hagi

Yeah, supposedly there are may 10 copies of Stadium Events floating around. This is one of them, so if you're a big time collector -- you'll pay the big bucks.

Serious collectors on eBay usually know exactly what they're doing. If something is selling for $50, then maybe it's a fluke. If it goes for $500 -- it rarely is a fluke.
