Re: Teavana tetsubin half the price as Iwachu one: Interesting?
Hey iannon, can you post a direct link to the TeaGschwendner coupon page? Or did they maby quit the coupon offer?iannon wrote:at TeaGschwendner where Vic pointed out. on the home page of the online shop there is a coupon code that if you buy 250g of any tea you can get 50% off any cast iron kettle..id even go for some cheap gunpowder at 13 bucks or something else to get that 50% off!

Edit: I found it: http://shop.tgtea.com/store/
But I guess it's only for US customers.
This week I'd this idea: Just type 'Iwachu' in the dutch Google.

And now I find some (Dutch) tetsubin-webshops:
- vdven.com
- Teatower.com: Beautifull Iwachu, but 197,00 €
- Japonais.nl

Looks like you are on the right track now, let us know what you decide.
I really liked the first site.

Hey Chip, I'm looking for some few more details:Chip wrote:When I say big, 36 ounces is a lot of tea to brew in a single steep. And since I may brew 5 or more steeps of most teas, well, the math is a bit stappering, just too much liquid. Plus it is a lot of tea leaf. 36 ounces would require 20-36 grams of leaf. Try putting a lot of leaf in a small infuser!!! Good luck.![]()
When I was a newbie in the late 90's and was completely devoid of teaware and info (no TeaChat in those days and much info was gleaned from Western vendor sites who also happened to sell BIG pots) this is what I happily purchased. These two tetsubins are quite beautiful.
A smallll one would be better, and I actually have a small knock off that I brew certain non temp sensitive teas such as genmaicha, houjicha, mugicha, etc.
Now I brew 4 - 7 ounces most of the time. I generally use a Kyusu or a Gaiwan (or "gaiwanesque"). *loves kyusu-s*
Can you tell me what's the weight of a full 36 oz tetsubin?
An can anybody tell me what's the weight of a full ±25 oz tetsubin?

Re: Teavana tetsubin ⅓ the price as Iwachu one: Interesting?
I just bought an Iwachu tetsubin from Sensational Teas (if you search them in Google they show up first) for under $100. It's gorgeous, came with all the authenticity certificates, and their service was spectacular (they included a sample of Pearl Jasmine tea in the package). If you're looking to get an Iwachu without breaking your bank, I highly recommend their site. However, they don't sell the teapots in sets, and the iron cups they sell are quite pricey, so I've been looking elsewhere in order to make my own set.
