Yuck, I never got past the fact that I am eating raw, slimy and chewy fish. So no thanks.
Tried some Yunnan F.O.P with a lazy cigar this morning, I recommend it, a lovely pairing.

Re: Monday TeaDay 3/8/10 Sushi/Sashimi with your tea?
In some parts of Japan....... horse sashimi (raw horse meat) is considered a delicacy. That is one I just can't dogeeber1 wrote:This is kinda gross, but when I was little, we used to sneak bits of raw meat loaf or stuffed cabbage mixture when my mom was making it. We never got sick from it but maybe our meat was cleaner then?
I've eaten essentially raw chicken over there (blanched for one nanosecond). (Hey... it tastes like chicken

If it was "slimy" when you tried it, the odds are it was NOT rather good sushi / sashimi. (Or it was certain types of squid.....yeah...... some of those can be "slimy"dooble wrote:Yuck, I never got past the fact that I am eating raw, slimy and chewy fish.
A good cut of something mild like maguro (average quality tuna) is more like a nice medium rare beef in texture. Really good maguro almost melts in your mouth. Chu Toro (medium quality tuna belly) does melt in your mouth. Toro..... well.... to die for!

Agreed, should never be "slimy" which would be a sure sign the fish was not fresh and should not be eaten raw. This is another reason I want it prepared fresh so the sushi chef can assure its freshness as he prepares it.JBaymore wrote: If it was "slimy" when you tried it, the odds are it was NOT rather good sushi / sashimi. There is always room for sushi discussion in FooDay! Sounds delicious!
And thanks for the recipe offer, John. I will PM you shortly.

I´ve never tried anything but a bit of the sushi rice so I said other since I´m not sure if I would actually like it...
the rice by itself wasn´t terrible...but vinegar rice wasn´t very appetizing for me...I don´t really like rice a whole lot anyway...it feels like a chore to eat it´s so plain without adding a lot to it.
I might like some kinds of maki rolls but they´re expensive for me to be buying when I´m not sure if I´d really want to eat them...
Sashimi is a bit scary though

I love sushi/sashimi!
But not with tea though, I prefer beer (Japanese draft like Kirin) or sake. And tea afterward.

I love sushi, sashimi, and any other Japanese food I can get my hands on!
(Cooking it is fun, but time-consuming... Oh, so time-consuming...)
Tea is wonderful with sushi. Usually, I just have hot sencha when I'm at a Japanese restaurant, but I've had matcha and genmaicha as well. When I eat Japanese food at home, I drink jasmine green tea if the dish is mostly rice, and any other type of green tea otherwise.
Pu-erh with magnolia flowers right now, to be followed by... Who knows? (Mystery tea!! Haha.)

I eat a lot of sushi, and I always drink tea with it, I feel like the cleanliness of the tea doesn't take away from the delicate flavors of the food- altogether it's a very healthy feeling experience!

Really busy day, I had an early morning meeting so I just did coffee.
Now in my cup some older Baozhong that still tastes great. Looks to continue to be a busy week.

I love both sushi and sashimi especially with tea! There was actually a nice little sushi place that opened last fall in my area that serves awesome sushi/sashimi along with what tasted like a decent genmaicha. It was a mistake to go during lunch time, as I really didn't want to go back to work afterward, but it was so delicious. Now I just have to convince other people to go back there with me...
Waiting for the water to heat up and then I will have a bowl of matcha. Sadly, dinner is pork chops and not sushi.

I love Sushi. We try to go out at least once a month to one of our favorite restaurants nearby or we can order in also. I almost always have tea with the meal as long as we are somewhere they are brewing it fresh.
Re: Monday TeaDay 3/8/10 Sushi/Sashimi with your tea?
Love sushi and sashimi. Been working at a sushi place for 3 years, and I can't get enough. Not usually with tea, but that's been because I thought I didn't like the green tea we have at work. But that's changed now, so we'll see, I might change my mind.
About the only thing I won't eat is octopus or mackerel - oct is too chewy, mackerel is too fishy (even the freshest just tastes odd to me). Most anything else though, is fair game. And Brian, if you've got a good sushi place, ask the chef to make you something vegetarian - I know our chefs are always really creative and willing to accomodate (and he's made some pretty darn tasty looking veggie plates for people- not to mention his stuff with fish!)
Some really cheap asian market gunpowder this morning and afternoon ($1.50 for I think 4oz) - it's not bad, for being that cheap, but definitely not on my list of favorites. Still feeling stuffy, so I went for some comforting almond/vanilla oolong this evening with dinner.
I'll give a +1 to other comments about slimy, but if it's chewy (depending on the type of fish) it's probably not the freshest either. The best for me is good salmon - it just about melts in your mouth, it's amazing.dooble wrote:Yuck, I never got past the fact that I am eating raw, slimy and chewy fish

My last tea of the day was some Violet Tea I have been trying to figure out.
When I got home a nice Japanese package was waiting on my doorstep.
