I have an assortment of tins. As I made the transition to loose leaf I reused my many Republic of Tea tins - and I bought ten of these from specialty bottles, most of which ended up being used for introducing my Mom and Mother in law to tea.

None are what you would call attractive, just functional. I now wish I had some smaller ones - have a lot of different teas open that take up only a small amount of these tins.
Oh, and a large selection of Adagio sample tins. These are great to reuse for taking part of my collection to work.

TD continues with some weird "sencha."
In addition to the Japanese tins, a lot of Chinese tins and vendor tins including lots of Adagio's are all over the place ... but still a "few" more Japanese double lidded faves.

Chip, that's a delightful collection -- and nice space to display.
A very nice cup of Imperial Red (Da Hong Pao) a good Fujian Province black tea. The more I drink this, the better I like it.

I typically leave tea in its original packaging, maybe putting a bag in a zip bag. I did just buy a couple of basic tin canisters... but I'm not sure what I'll use them for. Guess I should buy some tea to put in them

Re: Sunday TeaDay 3/14/10 Hamsters ... no ... canisters?
Nice Chip! I have lots of Japanese canisters but none rounded. I love the look of those, but I need stacking.
Next up for me this afternoon some matcha from Den's.

Oh my. I just went to MF store, to see these, and there are none of these canisters! I'm so sad now! Over something I didn't even know existed 5 minutes ago!Victoria wrote:I love canisters and do collect them, but I have no room to display them. I do store tea in some. Among my favorites are my Mariage Freres canisters because of their unique shape.

Go to TEA PARAPHERNALIA on the left side, when the page comes up - choose SEE THEM ALL. They have so many gorgeous colors!!!!

I've got a bunch, but no high art. The sentimental favorite is a plain white 250g canister that one of my kids brought back as a gift from a study tour in Germany years back, filled with tea. We still use it as our breakfast tea canister--and last time I was in Germany I found a canister in a tea shop to give her in return; I think she too uses it for breakfast tea.
For the rest, a mixture of plug-top tins and chuzutsu of various sorts. Of about two dozen teas currently open in my active tea stash, probably 6-8 of each of these, plus a few still in the industry-standard resealables from vendors. (Plus sundry samples etc. etc.)
This topic reminds me that most of those tins etc. are 100g-plus size, which encourages buying 100g-plus quantities, which means having more leaf around than one guy alone can get through while it's still fresh. I think I need to downsize some--or have better luck with the so-far futile quest to persuade my good wife that there's more to tealife than black.
Just indulged in a few steeps of a nice smooth Tie Guan Yin. (The aforementioned wife admitted that the aroma of the wet leaves in the Yishing pot was heavenly, but wasn't minded to indulge in the brew.)

By far, the most of my tins are these from Tao of Tea. They are a perfect size for smaller quantities, and double lidded. Occasionally one is not as tight as another, but they stack okay, and obviously are a very good price.

Oooh I love those tins Geekgirl - a nice price and just the size I am looking for.
Re: Sunday TeaDay 3/14/10 Hamsters ... no ... canisters?
Most of my canisters are just reused tins from Adagio or other vendors, but I do have two small washi tins from Den's. One of these days I'll upgrade my storage containers.
In trying a sample of orange sencha from Den's, I discovered that I do not like beverages that taste like steeped Froot Loops. Bah. Off to rummage through the tea cupboard for something more palatable.

Yep, have cannisters, like to use 'em.
All my favorite teas have cannisters.
My least favorite or "test" teas often remain in their original packaging.
If a tea comes in a nice, heavy ziplock foil-lined bag and it's a fav, then the bag goes, ziplocked, into a large cannister.
Here's a few of 'em:

enjoying 3rd infusion of a japanese blend of senchas magokoro, kabusecha, ooigawa aoba, and teavana gyo supreme. Heh, heh.

Re: Sunday TeaDay 3/14/10 Hamsters ... no ... canisters?
I have a couple canisters in which some of my teas came, but that's about it-- mostly, they're "Tea Set Brand" mini-canisters from Chinatown. I also have a couple of canisters for "Golden Dragon" teas; there is a theme to all of them, though. They all have some kind of Asian-themed image on them (some have people, others landscapes, others abstract designs), and I plan on reusing them later.
For now, I don't have any specially-bought canisters because I like to spend any extra money on teas, but I am seriously considering buying one for a huge bag of Thai-style blended tea leaves that I'm going to open soon.
Right now, I'm drinking pu-erh with chrysanthemum; later will probably bring more barley tea or whatever the girlfriend chooses if she shows up.

Chip,
I love those rounded Japanese double lidded canisters. Are they available to buy online?
Right now I'm using various tins I recycled, plus some new ones that came with the tea from Ishopo (nice & double-lidded). I cut the label from the bags of tea and tape onto to the tin so I know which tea is which. But seeing those pretty Japanese canisters, I need some of those!

AAAAAHHH Seeker, the OCD person trapped inside me can't look at your photo because the lid is crooked on your washi tin and the pattern isn't matching!
(no, seriously.
