Re: Thoughts on kyusu?
Wishlist:
one kyusu, 6 oz or less, sasame filter, elegant shape and with very little decoration
I've been browsing today and see lots of GORGEOUS 8-12 oz pots, but very little in the smaller range, and few of those with the sasame filters. While I don't know I need a sasame filter, I love the way the one I have now works, and I've had trouble cleaning metal filters in the past.
I've checked Rishi, Ippodo, Yuuki-Cha, Artistic Nippon, CD Japan. I see lots that are lovely at 8 oz, but would rather wait for just the right one to speak to me.
Other suggestions for places to look?

Artistic Nippon has 4 pots in the 6oz or under, with sasame filter. I own one (the red gyokko,) and I know others on the forum own and like the other two gyokko pots. Haven't heard or read anything directly about the Sekiryu pot, but it looks very well balanced as well.debunix wrote:Wishlist:

Petr Novak makes custom pots. He's on this forum. If you describe what you want (size, style, glaze etc.),he will make it for you and his work is amazing

I like the Sekiryu best, but am more attracted to those like the Fugetsu, and the Masahito--no drawings or pictures, just the lines of the clay and potter's tools or fingers.

You might try the tokoname teapot catalog. They have a LOT of pots in the 6oz or under range. Probably not many of them with sasame filter. You'd have to inquire.

Wow, that's a lot of pots. I'll check them out, thanks!
And they do look to have a lot of them with a sasame filter. But the site as I see it is entirely in japanese. Is there an english translation anywhere, or contact info to send an e-mail? I found several on this page that I can fall in love with:

Re: Thoughts on kyusu?
Figured out that website, posting here for others who may want to order from them. This is the home page in English:
http://www.tokoname.or.jp/teapot/
And this page gives ordering information
http://www.tokoname.or.jp/teapot/order.htm
Have now sent request to find out if my picks are in stock, yay!

Re: Thoughts on kyusu?
It should also be noted that the key on the top of the page does not necessarily give you what kind of filter is in the pot. So if that is important to you, be sure to inquire.

Re: Thoughts on kyusu?
I am definitely asking about the filter on the pots I am interested in.
I have asked about 976 and 989, although there are a couple of others I like as well or better that were in other parts of the catalog. I was hoping that perhaps the diagrams of the various filter types meant that the pots on those pages and after that were the same type of filter, and that was the main classification scheme.

Re: Thoughts on kyusu?
I can tell you for certain that is not the case. I have a beautiful little pot with an obi-ami filter that I bought off a page with a picture of sasame on it.debunix wrote:I was hoping that perhaps the diagrams of the various filter types meant that the pots on those pages and after that were the same type of filter, and that was the main classification scheme.

Re: Thoughts on kyusu?
That's why I asked about that in my query to the store, to be sure about that. And now I have to go back through the catalog--a chore in itself--and check for all the other small pots that were interesting on other pages, and see which have sasames!

yup..its quite the catalog isnt it? I got my first from there too. I also asked for additional pictures which they sent promptly. That pot went crashing to the floor in baby-accident though.. sigh. On the other hand i do like shopping for new pots.

+1 on the shopping for new pots. Of course you would have to love to shop for kyusu-s in order to shop from that site or it would be somewhat laborious to say the least.iannon wrote:yup..its quite the catalog isnt it? I am not sure how anyone could buy from this site and select/buy only one??? I have long been in analysis paralysis mode on that site.
