I kind of cheated because I didn't actually buy the tea, but I got a large sample (2 ounces or so) of a gyokuro from a tea house in - yup - Beverly Hills. $160/100 g. Great stuff, but I'd never buy it for myself.

Most expensive I bought was a Dan Cong at around $40/100 grams.

Have a cold today, so I'm drinking all the mediocre stuff in the cupboard. Yay.

Every expensive tea that I ever purchased was definitely worth it.
Absolutely.

Topping the list was an expensive Honey Orchid Gold Medalist #1 from Tea Habitat. $108. for 4oz not including shipping. And I gave most of it away in a tasting.

Some of Floating Leaves Tea oolongs can be quite pricey if you drink them daily. But they are among the best I have ever had, so also definitely worth it.

Then there are the teas that are pricey and then shipping makes the average cost outrageous! Like my Himalayan tea from Mariage Freres.
It was $61. for 100g. Add their outrageous S&H of $29 and THEN with $26.83 tacked on as a surprise COD custom charge (which of course were supposed to be covered by the $29) Brings it up to $116. for 100g.
But again - yes - worth it.

In my cup this morning - 2010 FF Darjeeling from the Jungpana Estate.

Not mentioning matcha (up to 60$ for 30g+ shipping costs), I had some gyokuro at 5300Y for 50g which is about 110$ for 100g.
I usually spend less for my gyokuro but real gyokuro is around 50$ per 100g anyway.
Kame Jiru Shi gyokuro this evening.

My pu brick would be the most expensive, but I only got a very little one (I'm pretty sure it's a sample size) so it didn't actually cost me a ton. I can't really spend a lot on tea (yay college life, hehehe  ) but I am saving up for some gyokuro and some other pu.

Gunpowder in my cup right now, probably to be followed by another most likely scented green of some type after dinner.

Even counting my brief foray into matcha, my most expensive teas would be a very fancy long jing from jingteashop.com, which helped me to a breakthrough that suddenly made the world of green teas seem more delicious and accessible; and probably one of the Dan Congs from teahabitat--I think at least one of them was over $1/gram, but as I've posted elsewhere here before, when I can brew up enough infusions gong fu style that I'm getting a quart of tea liquor from one or two grams of leaf, it's still not a very expensive brew, and well worth it for the pleasure it gives. I don't consider either of those everyday teas that I would brew to fill my thermos and carry around for an afternoon, but I love them when I have the time to do them right.

Today I started with a nice osmanthus oolong that was probably $20 per 100g, and will move on to some dragonwell at about $40 per 100g that is a little more reasonable (and easily available) for an 'everyday' tea.

$30 for 100g is my current tea-cap. So far theirs a tie between Shui Jin Gui and Tie Luo Han both at $29.50 and they were worth every penny. The big difference came later in a session were it tasted so sweet were many cheaper oolongs would be running out of taste at that point.

The latest one I can think of I have not tried yet, is from The Mandarins tea room, the 1960's Shui Xian, I am saving it for after finals when I am about to graduate. Though I have broken the 100 dollar per gram mark before when I bought a sample of 1960's loose leaf Puerh from Nada cha.

Though like everyone said these things do not get ordered in 100 or even 50 gram sizes, though I would love to be able to it is just not fiscally responsible for me right now.

Typically I am for a < 30 cents per gram, with my "good teas" or "aged teas" venturing closer to 50-75 cents, but those are bought a whole lot less often.

Not much tea today, but it was very good anyway! Next up was Adagio's new Maestro TKY, really liking this one!

So ended up with the last of a sample of darjeeling this morning, which kept getting cold on me, and since it was the last, there was a little more dust than usual in it, so it got bitter a little faster, but that's ok, I still got 4 mug-sized steeps out of it before I wanted something else. Then some oolong late enough in the afternoon that I only steeped it once before work was over, so subsequent steeps will have to wait until morning. Had to get groceries after work, then make dinner quickly, so no tea this evening.

I´ve gone up to nearly $50 per 100g a couple of times...the Muzha Tiequanyin from Floating Leaves Tea and a 1994 Feng Qing sheng pu-erh tuocha from Jing Tea Shop.

Tea Habitat has me tempted to venture over the $100 per 100g mark but I have a hard time budgeting for that. :?

Earlier today I had a couple of infusions of Oriental Beauty from FLT...that´s more on the bottom end of price  Second infusion I mixed with lemon juice to treat my allergies the natural way.

Now I´m waiting for my cup of 2nd Flush Margaret´s Hope hand roll to cool enough to drink :)

I've had three teas at $1 per gram or higher:
1. Sugimoto's Temomicha
2. Jing's semi-wild wudong dancong
3. Tea Gallery's Yame Gyokuro

The only issue that I had was with the Tea Gallery gyo. The first time that I bought this tea it was incredible, with flavor and texture of water chestnut rather than potato and artichoke. The second shipment was ordinary, and a disappointment given the price tag. It might have been the end of his stocks and could have been exposed to too much air and light, but he should have tossed this leaf rather than sold it.

But the Temomicha and the Wudong dancong were both worth experiencing.

I've had NO Japanese green today. Jing's Xi Ping TGY for breakfast and lunch.
