Re: Saturday TeaDay 4/17/10 English TEAPOT Extravaganza?
No pics, but I do have several. Most were inherited from my china loving mother and grandmother. The one I occasionally use matches my Portmeirion dinnerware.

I LOVE this one. So cute. How big is it? And it could survive even me...LauraW wrote:I have 2:
The more practical one for many things, including some smaller leaf teas, as it has a removable mesh filter - I highly recommend this one for everyday use, as it's not likely to get banged up if it accidentally hits the side of a sink or what have you:

I have a couple tea pots that are not English style, though they may be typical Western Teapot size. As in 10 or more ounces. Way to big for Gong fu. Though My very large Kyusu certainly could be used for Western Brewing, though why would I do that with Hagi?

Re: Saturday TeaDay 4/17/10 English TEAPOT Extravaganza?
I have a plain 12oz Chatsford bone china pot that I use for breakfast tea every morning and I love it. I can spend 5 grams of leaf every morning to produce at least three pots of good tea without a lot of fuss. That's important to me because I start to work as soon as I get up.
I have no pics, but this pot isn't visually interesting.
This is a rare weekend for me as I have no pressing obligations. Started the day with with matcha sansui and enjoyed Zencha's Ultimate sencha with lunch.

Thank you, Chip. Totally didn't realize that I'd hit URL instead of Img...Chip wrote:Laura's teapots ...

Re: Saturday TeaDay 4/17/10 English TEAPOT Extravaganza?
My one teapot that is closest to 'English' style is actually from Japan, but is a size and design that is much more western than Japanese, but unfortunately despite the several days advance notice I cannot find it....so it may have been sent on to goodwill to be someone else's Japanese 'English' teapot. It was rather pretty with black surface painted with a calla lily pattern. Sigh.
So far today, played with a comparison of gyokuro and sencha teas, and discovered, I think, that I just like sencha better--prefer the stronger 'tea' flavor and more distinct sweetness of the sencha to the umami and briny vegetalness of the gyokuro. I suspect this is why my experiments with matcha have been unrewarding to date.
Next up, a brilliant lemon myrtle rooibos from theculturedcup.com.
And where did the cute steel (?) teapot come from?

I am really enjoying it! I don't have much experience with Oolongs and bought this on impulse. This is my favorite out of the set, but I still have the Ti Kuan Yin to try.Chip wrote:How are you liking it? I may brew some of this shortly.laura99 wrote:On my fifth steep of Maestro Ali Shan today.

This Brown Betty is my only English-made teapot. Since she doesn't have an infuser, I use her mostly for larger-leaf teas.
Re: Saturday TeaDay 4/17/10 English TEAPOT Extravaganza?
Yup, stainless steel. And I want to say it was Target...possibly Bed Bath and Beyond. Doesn't look like they have it up anymore (got it 3-4 years ago), but I did just find it here and here.debunix wrote:And where did the cute steel (?) teapot come from?

I own one silver english style teapot, but it is only for display, much too large for use when i only make tea for one. Unless one day i start making tea for more than one person, i probably wont buy any more teapots, i prefer gaiwan brewing.

Thanks everyone!
Laura, I love that soft green one, really nice!! I have a stainless steel one too, I forgot all about it!
Chip, maybe we should have a modern/contemporary tea pot day sometime also?
Geeber, I have heard so many good things about those Brown Bettys.
Nice.

Ta Da!!
Nothing fancy. This was my Mama's Staffordshire teapot by Sadler--very well used!
The one below is from my wedding tea set that my mama's sister, my Aunt Tillie, gave me. She lived in downstairs in the tenement building where we lived on the top floor in Scotland. While Dad was gone his 6 years in the Army (WWII) she and Mama took good care of me.
She knew I loved Tea, teapots, and pussy willows, so hence the Tuscan "April Beauty" pattern in bone china. I have cups, saucers, plates, huge sugar and creamer for it, etc.
MY ABSOLUTE FAV OF ALL MY WESTERN STYLE TEAPOTS! And it is 52 1/2 years old.

Thanks Laura, Geeber, and ArtMom,for sharing your Western Wares!
Next tea of the day, Maestro Ali Shan from Adagio with Mrs. Chip. First steep was amazing. The second steep was almost boiling water, I am not used to waiting for tea to cool in order to drink it.

Nice artmom!! I like them both, but especially your favorite! Love that little top knob! Sweet!

Actually, it's more of a powder blue, I couldn't get the color to come across quite right. It's a great pot though, kinda makes me wish I'd picked up the cups that went with it, but I ended up instead with the ones I posted the other day on the Show Off... thread.Victoria wrote:Laura, I love that soft green one, really nice!!
