There was definitely a revelation tea for me - a Da Hong Pao at a tea shop in Vancouver, BC. For years I had been drinking Darjeelings and Assams, but that DHP opened up the whole world of Chinese oolongs. I haven't looked back since :D

Yuuki-Midori sencha in my cup today.

In my cup this afternoon a Formosa Oolong sample. "Fancy Grade" from SpecialTeas. Umm not so fancy if you ask me. Maybe for them.

Since there are two India selections and no Taiwan my bonus answer is "Other". Gooooo OOLONG!!!

CynTEAa wrote:There have been so many. One that stands out in memory is the first time I had a Tung Ting Oolong... It was an "OH MY" moment I'll never forget. The complexity of that particular tea that year and that harvest lot. Damn. I was never the same after that! :D
I had a similar experience just a month or so ago. I had never had a real Tung Ting before, but when I tried the oolong my tea friend had just gotten in, I had that same "Oh my!" moment you describe. The group of us tasting kept asking, "Are you sure this is just tea? There's really nothing added? Wow!" Yum!

I gave some to my 13-year-old sister over the weekend, and her eyes became as round as saucers on the first sip. I think that's definitely going down as her revelation tea. We also tried putting the last steeping in the fridge, just to see if it could be iced, and it turned out rather well! It could be a fun experiment for you as summer starts rolling in.

Just finished some loose Fuding Bai Hao Yin Zhen this late afternoon. Fine silvery buds covered in hair, yeilding a light gold tea. First steepings, light and sweet with a marshmellowy-vanilla aftertaste. Later steepings very creamy, with definite pepper and citrus notes, very reminiscent of bergomot. Fantastic smell.

I had two revelation teas. The first was the matcha I drank in third grade when my class was learning about the Japanese tea ceremony. I think that officially turned me from "Yay, Lipton!" to a tea fiend. After that, I constantly bugged my mother to get me green tea whenever we went to Chinatown, and I kind of branched out from there because people started giving me all kinds of tea as gifts.

My next revelation tea was pu-erh, which I just tried last year. I was curious about fermented tea, but wary at the same time because I'd had some experiences with really sub-par black teas (yes, people got me tea for gifts...but all too often it was tea BAGS which didn't taste too wonderful :| ). Well, I made some and sipped it tentatively... Then I proceeded to make and drink five more steepings within about three or four hours.

I started the TeaDay with some chunmee green tea, and am currently on my second cup of pu-erh. No five steepings tonight, at least I don't think so anyway.

Great topic, great replies, but not a lot of them.

Where is the Cinco de mayo TeaPartay???

TD continuing here with Gyokuro kame from O-Cha with Mrs. Chip served up in the new/old Noutomi Choun set. This set may be going for another soaking ...

Got to work and decided that I really wanted some Scottish Breakfast - had a cup of that (sadly, in a teabag, so it's not the greatest, but when a craving hits....). This afternoon I had some so-so quality mango green tea, and I just got back from picking up my TeaPackage!!! What to have first, is now the debate: do I start with Oolong or with the blend I ordered. I'm thinking blend first, oolong tomorrow at work. And I even got a free bottle of Adagio's bottled iced tea - too bad I don't like cold tea. Maybe my boyfriend will drink it...

Chip I did a double take, from above that Hohin looks rather similar to my Choun Hohin.

Really is the set still giving you trouble?

Oh yea I had 2 revelations with oolong tea that opened up a new door and lead to finding my favorite teas.

I hadn't even thought about trying oolongs yet because I was busy trying greens last year but then something unexpected happend. I ordered 10 rishi black tins and they messed up the order and only sent me like 5 tins. Rishi was wonderful about fixing the mistake very quickly they sent me the rest of my order plus a free large sample of bao zhong oolong. The bao zhong was amazingly sweet and quickly became one of my favorite teas and I just had to explore more into oolongs after that.
This lead me to jingteashop where I tryed a bunch of wuyi(yancha) oolongs and that was love at first smell and taste :D and now my favorite and most consumed tea is yancha. So if rishi hadn't messed up my order and then sent me that sample who nows how long it would have been before I discovered oolongs and more specifically wuyi teas.

Lapsang souchong today. I had to have black tea today for the extra caffeine after getting no sleep last night, playing hockey at 6am and then having exams all day. I think Im going to bed right now 8)

Having had a "Bah, humbug!" kind of day, I treated myself to MF Marco Polo and it, as usual, was delicously satisfying. It was good enough to almost make my day better, but it actually took GD Alex coming over to spend the evening with me and Barclay to do that! :)

A delicious pear from Harry and David, and a piece of Red Leicester cheese from Artisnal Cheese, and another cup of Marco Polo has finally made me really mellow. :D

Mmm... had a nice pot of CranApple with dinner... very tasty, but was better with just a hint of honey - got bitter very quickly. A good TeaDay indeed... hopefully to be continued tomorrow with a couple new teas!

Finishing up the TeaDay with some yummy chrysanthemum tea. It's getting me through studying for my physics final... Not that I anything less than love physics, but tea makes everything better!

No revelation tea for me yet. I tend to favor oolong, green, and white teas over black teas (the only black tea I keep is masala chai), and I adore the versatility of rooibus and herbals (love to mix and match them with real teas). I also love the taste of mate, but am staying away from a lot of caffeine. I haven't tried pu erh, but I'd like to someday.

My tea day consisted of several cups of iced apple lemon pomegranate rooibus + strawberry raspberry oolong, a masala chai latte with a squirt of vanilla syrup, and a pot of jasmine pearls.

An Oolong tea (pomegranate Oolong by Harney and sons) was my relevation tea. It was got me started on my tea journey. Ah, tea :)

Drinking a mugful of 52teas Champagne Mojito Green in honor of Cinco de Mayo. It's wonderful, light and refreshing, I can even taste the fizz of the Champagne. How do they do that?
