Usually my morning cup is a glazed greenware mug from the paint-your-own pottery place, but this morning I'm drinking my tea from a glass cup from the local WalMart. Nothing but the best for me! :P

Having the last of my Nilgiri Glendale OP and getting ready to brew up some Chai.

Happy Birthday Adam!

MANY HAPPY RETURNS OF THE DAY, ADAM!

A mug of "Dawn," an organic black from India. (Simple Leaf Teas) The mug is very significant to me. A cyber artist friend painted a New York yellow cab with goats in it and a "Mamma Mia" advertising sign on it. Sadly, she died after a brave, 11 year battle with cancer. A friend put the mugs on Etsy to make some money to help with expenses. I think of her bravery and talent each time I use the mug.

In my process of trying to learn how to describe, review, etc. teas, I read others' reviews AFTER I try to identify what flavors and aromas, etc. I am aware of. This tea is described as having chocolate or cocoa notes, and a light smoke aroma and taste. Frankly, I only noticed a very pleasant, light smoky aroma upon opening the sack. When steeped, again the pleasant, light smoke aroma. When tasting, no chocolate, no cocoa, just a very light smoky taste, very subtle and pleasant.

A bit mild for a morning black for me, but pleasing.

Started today with a Chawan and some matcha. Then an insulated travel mug with some Houjicha. Not my normal weekend teaware, but had work to do today and wanted a good amount of tea at my side.

Next up, Cheap inexpensive production but very nice Tenzopan Hagi. These have the classic tapered Asian cup shape and hold around 3.5 ounces.

In the cups ... just arrived today Yutaka Midori Kaoru Limited Edition from O-Cha with Mrs. Chip. This is their newly offered YM. Wowza, full throttle YM, nothing subtle about it.

... and 5th Shincha delivery so far ...

I bought some cups at Whole Foods that are made by BeeHouse of Japan. They're perfect for me most days - sort of a larger version of a traditional cup one would use with a gaiwan for tasting - white on the inside, various solid colors on the outside. I choose the color for my mood.

Today I am drinking a sample of "Refine Fired Old Bush Shuixian" from the Mandarin's Tea Room, and it is extremely yummy.

I found this very cheap cup randomly at DAISO when buying cleaning supplies. I didn't need another tea cup, but it's a mural of a fight from Romance of the Three Kingdoms. I couldn't resist a $1.50 teacup with wushu on it. :D

Started off today with very slow-brewed grapefruit green from Lupicia, about to break open a sample tin of Adagio's Yunnan Gold, a gift from my friend. :D Into the world of Adagio's teas!

Happy Birthday Adam!

I used and am still using a Seigan created, sea cucumber glazed hagi tea bowl.

The hagi was filled with long jing throughout the day

Settled in for the evening. Now having a bit of sencha in a rope textured and slip inlaid yunomi with a nuka glaze by Shimakoa Tatsuzo (Mashiko..... Here's to you.... R.I.P., my friend.).

This will likely be the last for the day ....due to potential "sleeping issues" .

best,

.............john
