Re: Shigaraki Kyusu Impression
I also bought a shigaraki kyusu from Hojo. A bit intimidated by the prices, I checked the "seconds" bin. LOL The pot I bought was discounted due to a slight "chip" on the lid. Which isn't a chip at all, but just a teeny and I mean tiny, area where the natural grains in the sand gave way during the firing process. And then at that it seems to have been sanded smooth. So although I was a little leery of ordering a less than perfect pot at still a premium price, I decided to take a chance. I am so glad I did! I can barely notice it, and when I first got it, I need my jewelry loop to find it. I feel it is naturally occurring in the clay doesn't bother me at all.

Can you see it?

Can you see it?

Re: Shigaraki Kyusu Impression
It's definitely not visible to me. I hope you enjoy the pot. My two Shigaraki pots really make me smile every time I sip my tea.
Re: Shigaraki Kyusu Impression
Drool, drool, drool.
Where is that seconds bin? I don't even see a storefront for the teapots on hojo.

If you follow the link Shigaraki provided:
http://hojotea.com/item_e/available.htm
and then scroll about a third of the way down you'll find the Shigaraki outlet. Right now it just contains one pot, which is described as having a lid that doesn't fit tightly enough to meet the artisan's standards.

Thanks. Not the easiest site to navigate.
EDIT: I'm still not seeing any links or pricing though I do see the pot with the lid you mentioned. Perhaps it is my wonky work internet connection, they tend to block certain things. I'll look at it again later.

"Seconds Bin" - Yeah, I was just using that term loosely.
When I found mine there was only mine and another that had been discounted, the one mentioned with the wobbly lid. Now it seems you can inquire if there are any other discounted pots.
As I stated before, there is a very high standard and even a discounted pot's flaws might not even be noticed, unless pointed out.

You have to email him for a price list. He runs 2 operations. One is online, the other is a storefront in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. You don't want to buy from the store. The prices are much higher than online.TwoPynts wrote:Thanks. Not the easiest site to navigate.

Re: Shigaraki Kyusu Impression
So the prices I see quoted in Japanese Yen are not the online sale price? The discounted price of 12,600 JPY is $145.Tead Off wrote:You have to email him for a price list. He runs 2 operations. Re: Shigaraki Kyusu Impression
wow that is very rough clay...would be fun trying to make something with it
Nothing I could do would be as beautiful as those teapots though!

Whatever you see online or through his emailed price list is the online price, I believe. When I went to his shop, the same things were much higher priced.JRS22 wrote:So the prices I see quoted in Japanese Yen are not the online sale price? You're starting out much closer to his store than I am. My son is living in Thailand - are there any teas or tea related items that I should be asking for?Whatever you see online or through his emailed price list is the online price, I believe. Re: Shigaraki Kyusu Impression
Not that I can think of. Thai teas lack the expertise of seasoned tea masters at the helm of these farms. There are many organic teas here but they can't match up with Taiwan teas which they are originally planted from.JRS22 wrote:You're starting out much closer to his store than I am. The teas I buy here are all from China and there is only 1 shop that I have found that carries quality teas, Ong's in Siam Discovery Complex in Bangkok.
