i drink Seneca at work 2-3 sessions with about 2 steeps each. so probably about 1 liter a day or so.
i don't believe you are doing anything wrong. for those who enjoy a 4th or 5th or further steeping, it makes sense to steep that many times. but according to hibiki-an, and many others (all due respect to those who disageee with this), "High quality tea leaves may be reused three times. Brew for a slightly shorter time (40 - 50 seconds) for the second infusion. Use slightly hotter water and a longer brew time for the third and last infusion." (from hibiki-an.com)
personally, i've never developed a taste for the tea from a 4th or later steeping.
if you are content with your steeping method, it's right for you.

I drink about 3 sessions per day. 2 to 3 steepings each. I drink more sencha than anything else right now.

I have one Japanese green session per day in the afternoon with three to five steeps per session. Serving size ranges from 6 oz down to 1.5 oz, where better quality requires smaller sizes.
I usually have rock tea in the morning and sometimes dancong in the evening, but afternoons are devoted to Japanese green.

I drink about 4 small cups of Japanese gyokuro. Each 2 cups uses about 5 grams, steeped twice. I used to drink much more than that but the caffeine started to get to me. I have tried to steep more than twice but it comes out so weak I don't enjoy it.
