Re: Marking your teacanisters

The lids just sit on top of the jar and are larger than the opening, so they do let some air in, but because they are glazed, they don't let too much. I store aged loose leaf puer, yan teas, and dark teas in them. Because they aren't airtight, they wouldn't be good for storing green tea and because they are glazed, they wouldn't let enough air in to age teas well.

Thank you IPT - looks really nice. That has beauty and function.

@Chip: How do you match the size of your tins and the one of your washi canisters? I think I will buy tins at Upton or at Speciality Bottle. Unfortunately I didn't find something adequate in the EU.

@all: I wonder how many canisters has one in use at the same time. Five, ten, twenty, fifty? Oh some people here with 100+ do not count to that question

I have mostly siver sample tins like the ones chip posted, but i use transparency markers to mark mine i list the type of tea and date opened, when i change teas it wipes off with just a little water, you could also mark on the bottom where it wouldnt show if you wanted.

Masking tape and a pen. If it leaves a mark then I will cover it with more tape next time

That looked so cool that I had to try it myself. I ordered a tea canister from Dragon Tea House and used it to store some Tie Luo Han from Jing Tea Shop in it.

Unfortunately I can't write Chinese, I don't even know the stroke orders, so I cheated and used my printer. I don't know how to write Jing Tea Shop either, so please tell me if I did it wrong.

Looks tremendous, I have the same canisters from DTH and made a mental note that IPT's method would be a bonus, except that from Chinese characters alone I might not know which tea I was selecting.

How do you get a thin strip ?
Cut from an A4 page of coloured A4?

That looks pretty cool, good job! But I'm with Herb Master, I would need an English translation if I had a few of them. I would never remember. Maybe a small sticker for the underside of the ribbon?

You can always just write them in English. Just use a Sharpie on a strip of red paper. That's what I did many years ago.

If you do write it in Chinese, it's a great way to learn Chinese though.

OK, so I want to try this but not getting very far.

I want Chinese on the visible part and something in English on the bit that is tucked away out of sight.

1st
Control Panel
Date, Time, Regional......
Regional and Language ......
Languages
- - Check Box "Install files for East Asian Languages"
- - Click OK
Restart PC

2nd
- repeat -
Control Panel
Date, Time, Regional......
Regional and Language ......
Languages
- - select "Details"
- - add Chinese PRC, Chinese Hong Kong and Chinese Taiwan

allow to toggle between English(UK), Chinese Hong Kong and Chinese Taiwan. allow alternative switching by floating task bar.

support by add-ing keyboard/ime for each

In both WORD and here as I type toggling to most of them and then pressing the keys on the keyboard only inputs the english character, with Chinese Taiwan and another toggle of the floating task bar set to a chinese character rather than "E" I get a sort of popup space with a chinese style character in, but this only results in an unformattable character in the document - AND some of the uppercase characters are switched as @ and "

any clues ?

I can input those characters,

if I choose (from the floating task bar) Chinese(PRC)

and then set the 2nd element of the task bar to
either Chinese (Simplified) - Shuangpin
or Chinese (Simplified) - Zheng Ma
or Chinese (Simplified) - Quanpin
but not Chinese (Simplified) - Microsoft Pinyin IME 3.0

whilst the 3rd element of the task bar is Chinese

I have to choose from a list of options that it gives me.

But even if I knew which character to choose from the list it would not help. At least I can get Chinese characters appearing - now.

Next step is to find an internet source where I can copy the text for names like Da Hong Pao - most of the sites I see have it as pictures not text.

:D

Found Da Hong Pao - I think

Do the first 2 characters mean 'Spring Roasted'

传 统 大 红 袍

Hopefully the last 3 characters are Ti Guan Yin

韵 香 安 溪 铁 观 音

I tear it off the bag and put it between the 2 lids of the caddy. I do have to remove the outer lid to see what type of tea it contains, but I don't have to touch the inner lid and I won't forget which is which if I have 2 similar types of tea in two containers at the same time.
I do this exactly also.
