Re: Main purpose of serving pitchers
I use one mainly because it prevents the mess I make when using a gaiwan without one, especially when the cups are small. I sometimes use the pitcher with Yixings but not as often becuase they pour much better.mayayo wrote:I need to know what's the reason for using them in a gong fu ceremony.
Are they really needed?
Care to enlighten me a bit, please.
Sometimes I mix the first couple of infusions together in the pitcher.
Someone else mentioned that with a brewing vessel that's much larger than the cups it makes sense to pour into the pitcher and use that to refill one cup. I sometimes do this when using very small cups with a larger gaiwan or Yixing.

Wow! You have a +5 vorpal blade? Those are hard to come by.

I used to play D&D, but that was in the late 70's. god, I'm old!

oh dear, I thought I was just hanging out with tea geeks. I had no idea some of you were real geeks.
Re: Main purpose of serving pitchers
Hahaha, now you know. I played D&D back in the late 70s and early 80s too. I seem to recall it being cool then, for my age set anyway. Don't worry, I'd don't think the geek is contagious. I'd much rather have the Gaiwan of Neverending Tea than a +5 Vorpal Blade these days.Proinsias wrote:oh dear, I thought I was just hanging out with tea geeks. To be fair, I'm not entirely innocent myself. I think there's still a Skaven rat horde army of painted miniatures for Warhammer somewhere in the loft

I have a very large pitcher that allows me to get 3 pots ahead. That allows me to sit down and drink with everyone else without having to keep jumping up.britt wrote:Someone else mentioned that with a brewing vessel that's much larger than the cups it makes sense to pour into the pitcher.
It also evens out the taste and strength of the tea.
So every one's getting the same tea taste.

Re: Main purpose of serving pitchers
There's also the benefit of having the faircup to smell after the tea has been poured out. Smelling the bottom of the drinking cup, the brewing vessel and the bottom of the faircup will all reveal different nuances of the tea.
Re: Main purpose of serving pitchers
Once I tried using a pitcher with a gaiwan I wouldn't be without one. Soon after, I purchased a second one.nonc_ron wrote:I have a very large pitcher that allows me to get 3 pots ahead. That allows me to sit down and drink with everyone else without having to keep jumping up.
