Re: Hole on the lid
For those who are interested in knowing what it looks like:
http://item.taobao.com/auction/item_det ... l?cm_cat=0
Scroll to the portion which show lots of teapots. It is at the second last row, column 7. Only half a teapot is shown but the spout, the round body and the flat top looks like the teapot which i am referring to.
As you can see, the potter is quite experienced.
By the way, taobao is China's answer to ebay. There are lots of teapots for sale and a whole set of intermediaries had grown to help english-speaking buyers to navigate through the purchase process. I am not comfortable with ebay and thus i am also not comfortable with taobao. Still it has lots of information, pictures of branded teapots by famous potters, something you cannot find in the english-speaking internet world.
Taobao is my favourite place to view pictures of teapots by selected artists.

Generally for a small yixing pot with lid well fitted, when the pot is filled with water and hole is blocked, there is no air flow so the water should be blocked in by air pressure. If there is air leaking from the rim of the lid, then water can drip out even when the hole is blocked. So if water can drip, the question is, where does air get into the teapot? Maybe you can try holding the lid and inverting the teapot and see if water comes out from around the rim of the lid.
The water flow test doesn't work on many porcelain or glazed teapots. If the teapot is very big, the water flow test doesn't work either, because either air flow from the spout will be significant or the water inside the teapot is too heavy for the air pressure to block.
Let us know if the mystery is solved
Totally agree! It's true that sometimes water flow test doesn't work on bigger zisha teapot. But if much water flow when blocking hole, it at least may not a high quality one.
