This is what you want, and luckily, available much more cheaply than it used to be.

There is some plastic and metal, but none that will come in contact with the water (or, Chip, even condensation). I use it stovetop all the time, often taking it from cold directly to a high flame (though the manufacturer does recommend using a medium flame).
Ah, brilliant! Thank you. Just what I was looking for.

My Capresso glass kettle died yesterday while brewing for a friend. After taking it apart I think there is a short at the switch. It does not look practical to repair.
The pour of the kettle is an important point.
Now that I am back to my Braun 7 cup kettle (which has a terrible pour) I appreciate control (which was not so good on the Capresso to begin with.)
Maybe this was covered...maybe I am guilty of not reading carefully.

Good topic to bring up again.

p.s. Looking for a good pouring high capacity kettle...

p.p.s. One used Capresso kettle for sale.

this is my water kettle in the office. i use this almost daily except for weekends...

Image

its a Beka brand 18/10 stainless steel kettle with a thick base.
sometimes when i leave the water to boil for a bit longer than usual, i notice that there are white circles forming on the interior surface of the base of the kettle. i cant post a pic of those because of the shape of the kettle. because of the design of the kettle, the only opening it has is for the water to pour out of.

do you guys also get this with your stainless steel kettles?
the kettles ive used before were not so high quality stainless steel and i do notice those while circles forming more easily and more often.

what are those white circles or deposits? and are they harmful? is there any other way to remove it besides scrubbing the surface? (cause its extremely hard to scrub because of the very small opening)

thanks!

odarwin, I am sure that the white rings are scale build ups. This can continue to build up. Try a vinegar treatment allowing it to soak a few hours, the acid usually dissolves the scale. Then rinse well.

Retreat if necessary.

Worst case scenario, you might have to scrub it (while the venegar is still in the kettle) with a bottle brush.

Fill the kettle with vinegar and boil it, dump out the vinegar...then boil and dump out batches of water until the vinegar smell is gone....usually two batches of water.

Boiling the vinegar will get rid of the white deposits for sure :)

They´re just minerals being deposited from your tap water....they´re not harmful but they start to make the water taste too hard if you let them build up imo.

thanks for the inputs guys!

... but i only notice them appearing if i accidentally leave the kettle to boil over a longer period of time (ie when i leave the room and come back after a few minutes) i always suspect that these might be chemicals from the stainless steel surface?

ill try the vinegar boil, thanks guys!

I think that´s because you´re driving the minerals out of solution by boiling the water off there´s not enough water volume to keep all the minerals dissolved so they start to precipitate out of the water.

I have to say v-908 kettle is a very good kettle. I have just finished of clean it. It had a grey dust-fat.

Very precise the temp indicator, when reaches 100ºC begin to boil.

I´m very happy with it, I´m going to boil with vinager to remove the smell of new metal.

I like a lot the beep sound, I can stay relaxed in the living room and it sounds I know that is ready.

I'm not sure if it has already been asked but I was wondering why the plastic components are such a problem. I have had one for almost 5 years now and can't really see where the plastic has hurt the performance or quality?

thanks

I think folks are worried about leaching etc., both in terms of taste and, more importantly, in terms of safety. Given that kettles are used to heat / boil water, it's especially a concern.

Even food grade or non-BPA plastics are suspect according to some studies:

yep yep the dangers of plastic~!

I think after numerous boils though the amount of leeched out stuff is very minimal. Don't stress too much in your head.
