Darjeeling tea sells for Rs 10000 a kilo
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city ... 219770.cms
(That's about US$147.78 and less than what I'd have to pay for some pretty average stuff over here.)

I added a comment to my post before I saw your reply, kyarazen. Upper Namring is one of my favorite estates and I would have paid them $150 without thinking twice.kyarazen wrote:i wouldnt mind buying that.. I'm looking forward to getting back to Darjeeling for the next first flush season in 2017. Visiting the gardens during the day and tasting all sorts of samples with some old friends has always been a wonderful experience, second to none.

The Mississippi tea farm that is probably familiar to most (Jason McDonald's) is in the news here in Bangkok, apparently an article from a source like Reuters or the AP feed being picked up here:

Not really related to that news, this site was down a few days, and the format changed, and the message system still seems to be down, lacking the function of sending messages. I'll look around about how to contact someone about that, which may not work out well given the nature of the glitch I just mentioned.

Calcutta, March 27: The Tea Board is planning to put in place some checks and balances to ensure that the quality of imports from Nepal is tested before they enter India

Re: TeaHeadlines in the News!
I would imagine the Darjeeling growers are not too keen for the competition from Nepal. They will probably try their best to limit the amount of tea they let in or make it as difficult as possble for the teas to be imported into India. However, the best teas are usually exported to western countries and Japan.kuánglóng wrote:Calcutta, March 27: The Tea Board is planning to put in place some checks and balances to ensure that the quality of imports from Nepal is tested before they enter India

Re: TeaHeadlines in the News!
From Dhankuta, Nepal, Himalayan Orange organic black tea of Jun Chiyabari, pleases me once again, as I read about darjeeling & Nepal concerns.
The best tea of Nepal does not cost as much as the best tea from Darjeeling, though its quality equals it.
If it became easier to buy the tea (less trouble & cost for wiring $; cheaper air freight), Nepal might get the reputation it deserves for its best tea.

That's been my impression too for a good while now. The two most memorable teas I've tried in 2015 came from Nepal, a Shakira and a Jun Chiyabari but then I've only tried around 60 Himalayan teas from last year, far less than usual.ethan wrote:From Dhankuta, Nepal, Himalayan Orange organic black tea of Jun Chiyabari, pleases me once again, as I read about darjeeling & Nepal concerns.

That's to be expected and our friends in Darjeeling have something more to worry about once the folks in Nepal find better ways to market and distribute their teas. I'm looking forward to be back in the eastern Himalayas for the 2017 first flush, can't wait.If it became easier to buy the tea (less trouble & cost for wiring $; cheaper air freight), Nepal might get the reputation it deserves for its best tea.
