Changtai Laobanzhang

But these vary from cake to cake, estate and vintage, so YMMV.

i believe its from the best tea house in hong kong... they do have a branch in canada thou, you might want to ask there if you are interested

There are several boutique vendors I know in Yunnan who make very high quality puer cakes from old trees. They are all Koreans (as I am) and they probably sell 99% of them to their customers in Korea. I was lucky enough to find one of them through Korean IP. He will ship this year's tea samples for free if you pay the shipping. (I just received samples a few days ago. It was 186RMB via EMS to USA) His cakes are not cheap by any measures, but the quality is incredible. Unfortunately, he does not really have a website in English but anyone wants to try the samples, I can relay the message to him.
I personally bought several cakes from him over past few years and I can tell you his quality is as good as any out there in the world of puer.
He does have a paypal account so you can do easy transactions if you decide to order samples or purchase later on.

Added: BTW, when you order samples, you will receive 5 to 6 each 20~25g packages. If you want to order, you can email him directly at muhwaga@naver.com or send me a message and I will help you get in touch with him.

Fairly pricey and I don't know how much is for the glossy packaging. As they seem to market their teas as Louis Vuitton or Gucci goods.

Three cakes

2002 Qianjiazhai (the region with the 2700 year old tree). Tasted this, almost evaporative in the mouth and then the flavor kicks in. Very robust, mellow, sweet.

I could still taste the sweetness in the lips and mouth after dinner a few hours later.

The test is in the taste. And they are good teas, but have to keep them for drinking years later as I prefer to drink ripe or aged raw pu-erh's (after 15 years of storage)

This is one of my favorite premium tea shop that specialized in selling Old Tree Single Estate Pu.



What you see on the shelf is this year new production. Every year they will produce few good single estate pu. They will make a trip to the farm and special order. Then deliver to the factor to press. They opt for traditional process method.

They have a range of selection. The more older the tree, the more expensive it is. And the amazing thing is, the expensive pu will normally sold out faster than the cheaper pu. Some will not make it to the shelf (eg their pure LBZ).

Their Pu are very nice but costly. Even new, it is very easy to drink. Even if it is smoky, the aftertaste is good. I will do a KLP on them in the future. Maybe compile few of their products and combo it for sampling.

Yes, the shop is in KL.

Currently there are 2 organizers doing tea events every year. The recent Tea Art was interesting. But the coming expo Nov, I hope the organizer will improve. Their last year was disappointing.

If you are coming purposely for the Fair, I am not too sure worth it or not but (if time is right) I can help you make it better by bringing you to shop around out of expo
