Great idea! Sure wish it was that easy in the northern US!jayinhk wrote:Put pu erh in room. Add humidifier with electronic humidity control. Done.

I ran out of room in the pumidor. The extra has gone into a wooden music cabinet in the basement. So far the wood from the cabinet has such a rich smell with the mixture of the puerh smell!

For the budget conscious y'all might try a college/university or restaurant surplus store.

Oh my goodness, Biohorn is in Ohio the land of Crock Storage. Here is the best deal in new crocks. The cool thing is this company also sells fitted lids. You can pick a ceramic lid if your climate is really dry, or get a wood lid if you have a bit more humidity, or get the wood lid just for summer.

Thank you for bringing it up.
Yes! In the thick of it! This idea has been on my radar for some time. My budget does not yet allow for this transition, but I have been keeping an eye on Craigslist. While they can be reasonable, the shipping is anything but!
This could be a super method of storage!
Re: The perfect storage unit for controlling heat & humidity
HK humidity makes my knives rust and my leather go moldy, but at least my tea comes along quickly
I have the dehumidifiers set at 70% today

Some of the coolest people I've ever met were from Ohio, so I'd have to think long and hard about that trade!
Re: The perfect storage unit for controlling heat & humidity
On other forums, people talk about wanting to change something about their physical appearance.
Here we talk about wanting to change our humidity.

I really don't think a proofer for bread would work for puerh because while you may have some temperature control it apparently starts at 180 degrees. That's a little too hot for puerh but great for prepping a loaf of bread.
Re: The perfect storage unit for controlling heat & humidity
I just bought one of these for my teas:
http://www.ikea.com/hk/en/catalog/products/70182172/
I'll probably reserve the top shelf for teapots and the one below for pu erh, and then have separate shelves for oolongs and greens.
There's no way I can fit all my tea into this cabinet, but it will allow me to view and access the teas I do have in there quickly and easily, and glass is inert, so it won't affect the taste of my pu. Everything else (aside from pu and hei cha) is stored as airtight as possible too. During the dry season, the only moisture I'll add is from putting wet teapots back in (with the lids lifted). This kind of cabinet reduces UV transmission and allows for airflow, but not much--perfect for pu erh storage in my book, at least for my situation here in Hong Kong.

(*sorry for spamming. i have nothing to do with the company and dont know anything about it, just thought it might be somehow interesting for others to know about the project.)

This is awesome. Too bad on the sticker shock and wait time.

Re: The perfect storage unit for controlling heat & humidity
Interesting!
Too bad it's also just a mini-fridge with a humidity control unit....

Not even that, it's an attachment for a mini fridge. You have to install it on your own fridge.Drax wrote:Interesting!
