Space, I laid out a lackluster Matcha section as a trap.
I am sorry to have to do that to you.

Teawiki sucks. Just look at it! It is a mere horsewhip manufacturer, and we are Henry Ford. Without all that unpleasant Nazi/fascist baggage, anyway.

Yeah, not to brag, but I have seen that site before and it really sucks big time. Navigation is flat and their most used tags after "green tea" are "high blood pressure" and "aphrodisiac".

Mr. Sal --

Code: Select all

{{stub}}[[Category:Green Tea]][[Category:Chinese Greens]][[Category:Anhui Province]]
Please add a line like this to the top of any new green tea pages you make.
It will let me dynamically build lists dynamically of all chinese greens, chinese greens by province, all chinese teas by province etc. If it is a "famous tea", tack on [[Category:Ten Famous Teas]].

Thanks!

I'll try to help out in the taiwanese section as I get time - not that I know anything, but it will serve as a motivation to learn more and be corrected by those more knowlegable. :)

That's the great thing about the Wiki at this point. Even if you know almost nothing, that's a big step above what's already there: literally nothing!

It's fun to jot down some notes. I know I write in the sincere conviction that someone with a clue will come along and correct or amplify my contribution!

I have spent less than an hour on this, but I would obviously like to see it take off. A more permanent, better formatted, better searchable compilation of our wealth of tea knowledge? Feel free to bikeshed/ignore instead, I won't feel that bad.
I've just been waiting for input from.. well.. anyone, as I was intending it to be a community thing more than "my site" that others contribute to. So if you, or anyone here, wants to work on that as well, feel free to pop by the forum and start the planning process - www.dyingsun.net/phpbb

I don't know how much time I'll have to do stuff, but it's a Mambo so the admins can do just about anything with the site.

I'm sure we could integrate the two, but if nobody's interested then I can take it down and you guys can just continue on with the wiki. I may or may not start my own tea site, but I don't have the time or inclination to do my own solo project at this time. I'm happy to give input, help organize, and do the technical stuff, but not build my own site right now.

Added some pages on oxidation/processing. will try to flesh out the taiwanese section more, making a map of the different areas, may take some time.

Whoever's been working on this, it's really starting to flesh out, great job!

It's happening! It's happening!

Wonderful to hear, Tenuki. Taiwan section -- flesh -- good!

Mapping sounds like something to check with BHale or Scruff to make sure you admin types are not working at cross purposes. Even Hobbes is signed on as a "User"!

I'm wondering if it would be a big mistake to approach vendors like Stephane at Tea Masters or Ankit of Lochan Teas to contribute? I could imagine that becoming a big nightmare.

There's enormous talent and knowledge at RFDT and Cha Dao, people like Lew Perin (who runs BabelCarp), Corax, Geraldo, and several others who have been tea snobs for many years. Seems we should be able to tap into that somehow without letting too many idiots get their hands on things.

At some point, will we want to limit who is able to log on?

It's sooo exciting!

Help...stuck in this dang quote tunnel!!!

The Wiki is really showing the level of effort and expertise that is going into the project.

I am trying to get involved, but I am spread a little thin. I don't want to add anything half baked.
blah blah blah SENCHA blah blah blah!!!

Half-baked is the best! Especially if it's compared to nothing or quarter baked. We can always go back to refine or edit, or we can just wait for someone more expert to come along later. The first task is just to get A LOT of basic stuff up there in order to start serving as a resource for others. I think of our target audience (at this point) as mostly BEGINNERS, the same people we write for on TeaChat everyday. Actually, wikiCha should soon be a compendium that we can point newbies to when they ask some of the basic questions we have all answered many times. "How do I brew Tie Guan Yin," for example. The only thing I am trying to avoid is stuff that is just plain wrong or that is plagiarized.

Actually, I think my highest goal for anything I've written is that it be half-baked, because I know I'll never have the credentials of a real tea expert.
