I've never tried mate. I would love to try it at some point, as I am still curious how the caffeine in it would effect me. Tea caffeine works, but only after a few large mugs of tea. Coffee caffeine makes me bounce off the walls and then crash violently. So I've been wondering if mate would be a better alternative for when I have to be immediately awake.

This morning, I haven't had any tea yet, but have full plans to make some Kyoto Cherry Rose Sencha shortly.

This is one of the only types of tea I've yet to try.
I will eventually, I'm sure.

Ironically, I researched Yerba Mate last night for about an hour after my girlfrined bought one of those "SOBE Life Waters"......dont know if any of you have seen them.......and it said that it contained Yerba Mate. I thought to myself..."Hey....that is on teachat and I have never posted in that section or even known anything about it other than what it says underneat the title----an herb in th eholly family....southamerican drink...etc".....So I did a bunch of google searching. As of today I am very familiar with the terminology regarding Yerba Mate and would like to try some. The only thing shying me away from wanting to get into it is the high caffeine content.

*Today I have been brewing up some of my daily Pu (Wu's 2006 Reserve) in my 120ml. yixing

For everyone concerned about the caffeine, I've found it to be a different "rush" than a strong caffeine rush. It's kind of hard to explain, but it affects me much less than the caffeine content of a large cup of coffee, but it's still very noticeable. Some on here in the Mate section said whatever's in it has been described as an anti-depressant and I can definitely see that. The feeling I get out of a large mug actually makes me feel better...

Other than alcohol, I can't think of another drink that actually changes my mood like Mate. It's pretty interesting :!:

No yerbe in my cup today...but I do want Padre's gourd and bombilla!

In my cup, 5th steep of this Ono prefecture sencha Tokusen that has been giving me fits. Persistance sometimes pays off. I am using more leaf and a higher temp for a short steep. This was not easy to get to the point where I actually "like" it. I am not saying I love it, but I do like it...too bad it took almost 50 grams to get to this point. So, I have half a bag left to "enjoy" and I kinda doubt if I will reorder it. At 30 bucks, I can find better sencha.

I have never drunken it and it is not on my list right now.

As I was out quite all day, no tea since my morning Yunnan Golden Tips. A rooibos to finish the day in a few minutes.

MMMMM, Long Juan TKY from Victoria in my cup. I used the gaiwan from Padre and did so with great success. This is a great oolong, I detected no bitterness at all despite it being very green. Very sweet and aromatic. Awesome oolong. Possibly better than any Taiwan oolong I had past year. 4th steep coming up.

Thanks, V!!!
blah blah blah SENCHA blah blah blah!!!

I haven't tried mate, and it is not on my short list because I am weary of caffeine effect. I chose Other, because I don't think that liking mate is crazy. I would try it if one of my RL tea friends would make me a cup, I am curious enough about all things tea.

I am having a cold, I am congested and my tastebuds are dead. I had a cup of my favorite Assam in the morning and it tasted like wet saw dust :( . So now I am drinking some black tea from the "Teas I don't like" box. It tastes exactly the same as my good Assam in the morning - wet saw dust  . I don't want to waste any good stuff while I can't enjoy it.

I picked no/crazy, just because I felt like it. I will probably try it someday, mostly because it will give me an excuse to buy a mate like Padre's.

Brewin' up some Hatsumi sencha now. Good stuff, but I can't wait until shincha season!

Equating "Other" with a polite "No thanks" seems to be my way of voting in these recent polls.

I certainly don't begrudge anyone their pleasure in these exotic and potent teas. And that just leaves all the more delicate tisanes for me!

Sipping a not very delicate Rooibos Jasmine right now. Senses of taste and smell are just beginning to return as my cold fades.

On my second steep of Gau De Ti Guan Yin.

Not nearly as good as what is in Chip's cup, but above average by far. It is very sweet but with a milky finish, not clean. The aroma is more straw-like, less floral.

I am having a good finish to my tea day with the Vanilla Rooibos that was in my sampler from Enjoying Teas. Instead of straight vanilla, it has pieces of almonds in it that give it a nice, nutty flavor. It is not quite as robust as Adagio's Vanilla Rooibos though I am not sure which one I like better yet.

The rest of the tea day before the Vanilla Rooibos involved a cup of the Florence blend from Harney and Sons which was a chocolate-toasted almond black tea and a travel mug of Kyoto Cherry Rose Sencha. I had planned to have more tea, but got knocked off the tea track when I went over to my boyfriend's house for dinner. They are not tea people, but at least his grandmother brought over a bottle of Riesling which made the lack of tea more tolerable. She and I were the only people there who enjoyed wine, so it turned out to be a better situation than I expected. It wasn't tea, but it was still tasty.
