I have some chataku myself.... let me go fetch them and take pictures, although I really only use one set these days.
Thanks. BTW a brief tangent, someone got a steal on that hira chawan you were selling! I meant to snipe bid, but it slipped my mind

Here you go
I only really use the light coloured one. That one's Satsuma pewter from probably turn of the century. The small one is Chinese, although purchased from Japan, and also pewter. It might be even older, but it's hard to tell.
The other one is some unknown metal. Not a very good one and feels a little flimsy.

Wow Marshal, those are nice chataku. That Chinese one is utterly charming. I love the openwork.
I wonder if the "flimsy" Japanese one might be tin. It's one of the metals that are used for chataku.

The Chinese one is small for the cups I use these days, so it doesn't see much business.
The silvery one is the one I use the most. Very heavy, but very good
The other one I don't think it's tin. I don't know what it is though. Pewter is mostly tin (like the silvery one).

It is beautiful! Is it specifically a coaster? And where do you get such things? It is so obvious that Chamekke is out of town or she would be all over this sweet piece.

Thanks! I adore it. It is a coaster in a set of two. I have two infuser cups in similar style, by the same potter, as well as a small square plate. I purchased them in a small shop in Seoul that featured contemporary Korean artists. I bought a lot of things from this shop and the owner turned me on to these. I wasn't into tea at the time, but I thought they were beautiful. The pic shows it whiter than it actually is. It has more of a gray green tint.

Modern Korean pottery.
Your coaster is beautiful,
ThinkingOutLoud. Korean porcelain is really exquisite. From your description, I'm wondering whether it might be a very pale celadon.
Beidao's comparison to the abstract patterns in traditional Muslim designs is really apt. The pattern on this is just fantastic!

Just for the fun of it, here are some "rustic" chataku from Japan. Each chataku has a design of two different vegetables, carved and lacquered: making ten in all.
The challenge is to find a yunomi that doesn't "fight" visually with the design on the chataku.
These really demand a yunomi that is very simple - preferably monochrome.
