I always hate that when a vendor advertises a pot as a specific volume capacity and then you get it and it is way over that. I mean, honestly, how hard is it to measure the volume of a pot you are going to sell?

I love that Hagi stuff. Shibuya Deishi, right? How is that hagi pot?

Nick:

Yes, it's annoying. Also, one time I ordered what I thought was a 100mL gaiwan, and it was really 60mL! Turned out well though, it's nice having a mini-gaiwan sometimes. Different vendor too, so this isn't a trend for this vendor or anything.

Bill:

Your favorite store (DTH)!

For anyone who has any insight (most likely Bill again):

Am I right that this is hong ni, rather than zhu ni? It has the "muscle lines" but I've gotten comments that there are way too many for them to be natural. How much is too much?

Scruff, it seems that the pot you have there is kind of 'wrinkled zhuni' similar to these of DTH and of 1001 plateaus. The difference between these two could be the 'secret recipe of the clay'. If it's true then it is mixed red clay and I don't think it was aged before firing.

Hop, it would be my luck to see the pictures
Can you probably also take a picture of the inside of the pot? I have a doubt to resolve, it is the shrinkage inside the pot which looks somehow more apparent.
Thanks Hop..
Here is my Er Pu Zhuni or maybe "weathered" Hongni pot.. what do you think?

Hey, where did you get this pot from?

Looks like a reproduction to me, but it's hard to tell without having it in my hands. How many holes?

Hey Marshn, bought it from a dealer online. Interestingly, it was not advertised as ErPu so I don't know if this adds to the mystery. You are correct that it is indeed impossible from a pic if it is genuine ErPu or not. The chop mark suggests so, the wear around the skirt of the pot seems to have some age, the quality of the pot is very high, and the clay is undoubtably of choice - clearly made by hand. It has 1 holes with - one "cannon" spout. Regardless, it makes a fine tea and the pot is better than most on the market today :)

Nice Space! Is that from Rishi? You've been eyeing that one for a while now, IIRC...

How big is it, and what are you going to use it for?

Yeah, its from Rishi. I've been eyeing it for two years now. Its a 9 oz pot with a very fast pour, 5.7 secnds. I'm using it for oolong--TGY and yancha and maybe a little dancong. Since Tokoname isn't all that porous, I figure I can get a way with a much larger range of cross-brewing. I'm tired of gongfu-ing my oolong, and it has been my experience that Tokoname pots are simply better made than Yixing. Of course my Tokoname pots cost 3, 4, or even 10 times as much, so I would hope so.

Tenuki: yes, the flowers are from my yard. Its actually the same ones in all the pictures; they've been sitting on my desk for days.

They're bluebells, are they not? If only our dandelions in the midwest looked that nice. . .

I have absolutely got to stop clicking on this thread. Teaporn is so addictive.

They aren't bluebells; they're actually quite purple, but I have a cheap digital camera. It turns rich green matcha into a washed out pea-yellow color, and purple into blue. I hate this thing.

Sounds like you've been buying the wrong Yixing, Space....

Possibly...but I've purchased all my yixing pots from different places from a variety of prices, sizes and styles, and none of them compare to my various Tokoname pots in performance.
