I voted for #1. I really love a few herbal teas. Peppermint, rooibos, and chamomile especially. Mints make for my favorite "iced tea" lately even!

Though conversely I haven't had them hot as much lately. (Lately I've just been drinking sencha after work!)

As TIM mentioned this morning in IM:

"My cab stop at 9:07 this morning on Park Ave. The whole city stopped for a moment of silent. I was peaceful."

I was very glad to hear this and was in awe that a whole city could come together for one quiet moment to remember.

As we all enjoy our tea today, may we each take a quiet moment to remember 9/11.

I have regularly Rooibos but I wouldn't say I crave it. As long as I have Japanese greens, darjeelings, yunnan gold, keemun and some oolongs, I am happy!

Time now for some miyabi sencha.

Victoria, thank you very much for writing this under this poll. Growing up in NY and ten minutes outside of it, WTC was always part of my life- if it was just its presence in the ny skyline that I could see outside my window, or my stop when I did go into Manhattan. Today brings back many, many emotions for me.

On my tea note- I'm enjoying some Ali Shan...savouring every bit of it.

TIM, thank you for letting us a glimpse into New York this morning. I of course was thinking about it, as I am sure did majority of Americans. That day started a new way of life for the world, not necessarily a better one.

Today's poll:

I haven't had a chance to try mate, but for the rest I'd like to quote chamekke:

I can add decafs to the mix with the same rating.

Drinking matcha latte as I am typing this - Mmmm...

I'm not quite as kind as you are, Chamekke - I voted 9.
( but it could/should have been a 10.)
OOps.

I meant 2
I meant 1

( this is my edit!)

It depends on how I'm feeling, and which tisane we're talking about.

I had not thought about the day being 9/11 - have not read newspapers for a long time. Now all these memories of 2001 comes back, even if I was - and am - far away from NY.

I do like some herbals. But I never drink them. You snobs have made me prejudiced ;)

Todays tea
AM: Darjeeling and 2 cups of lovely Nilgiri
PM: Lots of oolong. Have confused some canisters so I dunno if its Huang Jin Gui or Jade Oolong. But I like it very much. Tastes like hot peach juice

Think I will have some Long Jing next. As soon as this oolong gives in.

i'm not real big on the tisanes but there are a select few that i do love. out of those three options, i'm most likely to drink rooibos. in honor of this thread i will be making this yummy vanilla almond rooibos.

Just had new ocha Yame gyokuro.

I used my usual gyokuro parameters: 8g 100ml 55°C 90s and it was somewhat bitter. Smaller leaves than the top gyokuros (but the price is only 28$ per 100g compared to 45 to 60$ for my usual ocha ones) which could explain it.
So I will try it next time with a shorter first infusion.
Or maybe as a light gyokuro (1g/oz).

Did anyone already tried it?

In some lights it has a subtle celadon tint to it, which is missing in this photo … I guess I got too involved in the red cast from a nearby incandescent. Its capacity is only 3.25 oz (92 ml), which is perfect for an intense little gyo session, and it is cute as a bug. Even little piggy had to come out of hibernation to have a look at it and help scoop goodness into it! In this my second gyo session, I noticed what a nice vanilla taste it has. Leaves went into the rice for supper … tasty!
Awwwww, my pot and cup. I use it strictly for gyokuro type teas.

Yeah, I would not expect it to be like a 50 USD gyokuro, but am hoping it will be a worthy everyday gyokuro that I personally have yet to find. The price point is very appealing. The fact it is from Yame and O-Cha has me very optomistic.

I would expect some adjusting in brewing would be required, Olivier. Please let us know how it goes! Thanx.

I am wondering what varietal it is. I know in Yame, they often use Goukoh (SP?)for gyokuro. Kevin is trying to update his descriptions so all products show varietals.
