No idea what to nominate, as I've never tried AliShan before. You all will have to make recommendations!

all I can say is "ditto"

Some neglected details and to answer comments and questions officially.

1.) From the nominations we receive in the next couple days, I will compile a list. From the list, we will select 5 by a "secret vote" emailed to TeaChatTCR@gmail.com. Do not vote until the vote is opened in a few days.

2.) You can nominate a vendor/selection even if you did not try it. You can base this on reputation or references. Or it can simply be one you have wanted to try!

3.) Nominations are for an oolong grown on Alishan, it does not have to be called Alishan, but the description MUST state its origin.

ebay vendors, this is a tough call. I can not universally say yes or no at this point. It might depend on the reputation of the seller in TeaChat circles. Also, how soon we would receive the product for distribution to TeaChat tasters. Shipping charges cannot be "extraordinary."

Out of country vendors, again, case by case basis perhaps. Shipping charges could disqualify an international vendor, but some are very reasonable. Timing is also very important. Some international vendors will have the product in our hands as fast as a domestic vendor. However, we may not be inclined to wait several weeks. This would slow the turn around to get the samples into the hands of TeaChat Tasters.

So, for now, nominate both if you want.

OK, that is all for now. Good questions and points. This is one reason we are doing a walk through here, to get maximum input in order to identify issues and deal with them now. Thanks!

I've only got to try Adagio's ali shan, so I don't other vendors that I can recommend.

Today, of course, Ali shan :)

I'll look around today for some vendors that I can possibly recommend. Maybe something from Hou De because Guang is in the area alot so the Taiwan oolongs are probably really nice, but they might be out of the price range...I'll look into it more

Most of the Ali-Shan that I have is stuff that I personally bought from Taiwan...I have a huge stash so most of the time that's what I'm usually drinking. This means my palette towards High Mountain teas is usually dead on accurate.

I fell off a ladder this weekend...and not a stepladder ugh

Broke my right wrist, hairline in my left, severe elbow bruise and 3 cracked ribs..OUCH  Somehow, my hard head was saved damage other than small abrasion, atho' did have a cat scan, waiting for results.

Nevertheless, it is extremely hard to type or really do anything right now. I will be reading TeaDay more than likely not much posting. A friend stopped by today and brewed Alishan Adagio for me and is currently typing this post! Wow, what a great friend :) Don't think this will happen every day

So Alishan is in my cup this morn. Everyone have a FAB TeaDay and if the thought strikes ya, say a quick prayer for painless healing. HA.. I am a real baby as far as pain tolerance. Give me the drugs

Sal, again you worked your magic and made me smile....lovely, drop-dead gorgeous shot!!! Thanks 8)

Maitre_tea, thanks for the get well wishes! They say things happen in 3, here's hoping that's true!

I also defer to the more Oolong-experienced as far as vendor choices on the Alishan. My daughter is sick today so I am home with her, it would be a good day to enjoy some oolong. (don't have any Alishan, though).

I do have a question about the TC/TCR idea. What is Adagio's benefit for doing this? Is their goal to improve their product if it doesn't compare favorably with others? Or to have bragging rights is it's better? Or just to encourage world domination through tea? :)

This morning I had some Yogic Chai with condensed milk. Thanks to the TeaChatter who suggested using condensed milk in chai, it's great!

Shelob, sorry to hear about your injuries, I'm sending prayers your way for quick healing!

Oh no! Best wishes for a speedy recovery. As you say, it could have been a lot worse, though what your describe is pretty awful anyway. What do you do for a broken wrist? Cast?
Maitre_Tea wrote: Maybe something from Hou De
I checked out Hou De. I could only find one A-Li-Shan there. It is a 2007 harvest date on sale at less than 20¢ a gram.
http://www.houdeasianart.com/index.php? ... cts_id=802

It looks like an unusual offering in that it is
  • 1) summer harvest, not spring
    2) a different cultivar
    3) a 2007 harvest year
    4) on sale.
I think I could vote for it. If there are going to be 5, it would be good to have 5 different personaliTEAS, and this one sounds rather distinctive.

Wow, Sal, I was looking at that one too but I wasn't sure if it fell within the price range...I'm not terribly good at math. But I second this one, but a summer Ali Shan will be interesting, especially since Spring harvests are usually better...I suspect that the tea will be more floral when compared to other harvests because summer tea growth is usually the fastest.

Yes, Hou De was one of my first thoughts too, their prices can be steep, but it would be nice to see them in the mix.

Oh Shelob!! So sorry to hear about your accident!
Sending healing prayers your way.

Starting the morning with Adagio Yunnan Gold, but I'll be looking for a few AliShan's for the rest of the day.

Shelob, oh my gosh! Well, I'm glad it wasn't more serious but still - not fun! Fast healing (and pain-free!) vibes are being sent your way!

Well, looks like chad and I are tea twins so far today. Sadly, my oolong stash is running oh so very low so no Taiwan oolong available. :(

Oh wait, I did have a coconut/lemongrass tea this morning before my darjeeling, so I guess chad and I are just fraternal twins.

I have no nominations for Ali Shan having only had one before. I bow to the more experienced Ali Shan-ers.

Ouch indeed. Of course you are aware that the only effective cure against injuries like that is tea, and lots of it. And champagne. Strange, but true*.

I'll refrain from nominating any AliShan, since I am a novice in the world of oolong, and I have every confidence in our resident experts.

*May not be true.

Well, I don't have any Taiwanese oolongs on hand, so I can't -- but I would! Instead, I'm having some organic Qi Zhong. At least it's an oolong!
