I get a similar problem with long jing. IMO, doesn't have anything to do with pesticides or caffeine (do you get a headache without washing your vegetables?) - just the wrong tea for you!
That's really interesting: I always thought the greener the lighter (and that's why I choose to try Dong ding). I think I'll leave it for a while, maybe in one month I'll try againg and I'll see. Thanks for all your comments,

Well, not necessarily that simple. Tea is a complicated animal!
Try eating before drinking the tea. If you have some food in your system (gu qi - 谷氣) then you'll have more to anchor your qi and prevent it from rising too much. Good luck!

There's an idea. Rinse or do a full infusion and dump before drinking. I also get tea headaches from asam and genma cha. I don't know why. It's not all one kind of tea (i am fine with other blacks and greens). I would suggest trying another vendor, tho it sounds like you don't have many options.
I too get headaches triggered by fragrances, etc . . . I feel your pain.

I swear I get headaches when I don't rinse. Especially with green TGYs, but I get headaches with those even if I do rinse...

Next time I'll have a meal and I'll rinse the tea before drinking. It will be some time, I don't want to take more headaches pills for now!
Sooner or later I'll have some tea from Gordon smuggled in: looking forward for some real tea!

Rinsing also take away some of the caffeine, than is why when I drink sencha I feel far more boost than after an oolong, and after matcha I feel like a rabbit on cocaine.

I think the Japanese greens tend to be less acidic and more alkaline, hence not the same effect re headache. They are softer feeling. Doesn't mean you don't get a massive dose of caffeine, but aren't there different types of caffeine depending on which product we are talking about?

You know, I've gotten headaches from some of the more floral oolongs, pouchongs, and jasmines. They seem to affect my sinuses like inhaling the pollen of a flower would ... or like strong perfumes do. So I've made it a point to mainly avoid these 3 types of tea just because I don't want to spend the money and then have an undrinkable tea on my hands.

Some people are hyper sensitive to certain chemicals.
