This is my first year as an official tea groupie, so I haven't regifted ... yet. People tend to hear that I like tea and give me stuff that they didn't like. I just put it up on the cupboard and move on. Plus, I don't really have anyone that I would regift bad tea to.

As far as teaware, I told my tea kettle story in yesterday's TeaDay, which wasn't really a regift but a "return and then repurchase the same item at a later date" kind of thing.

This morning I'm enjoying some Nilgiri Tiger Hill from kymidwife.

It's a maybe for me. I got very few tea-related gifts from the beginning. My husband and I, when giving each other gifts, avoid each other's "expertise" areas. I don't give camera related gifts to him and he doesn't give tea related gifts to me. So that neither of us will get from each other gifts so off track that we don't even want to touch :P

Nice, fancy (and useless:P) gifts from friends, sometimes I would take it just for being polite, and then regift. Since they are nice fancy anyway, I don't think anybody will dislike them, and they could be a nice deco for someone who doesn't have any tea stuff at home.

Having Kenya black tea now. It's very nice! When I first saw the loose leaves, I wasn't sure if I wanted it. But it turned out very nice! Ever since I saw the vote about green teas from different countries, I have been paying more attention to Kenya teas. Haven't got any Kenya green yet but got some black :D

Does getting a box of tea dust count? If it does, then yes I have. I regifted it into the employee kitchen counter.

So I got my new tin of gunpowder green from Adagio to mix with some spearmint for my Moroccan mint tea this morning. It was pleasant and refreshing.

I'm still waiting for a sample to try of the Liquid Gold tea blend from Teavana; luckily my dude works there to be able to provide me with a sample :) If I could try every little thing out there, I'd be too broke to feed my cats.

Sal - I love this morning's photo. It's a "wake me up" photo for me because of the colors.

I haven't had the (dis)pleasure of experiencing this yet. I would probably re-gift a tea gift if it were bagged tea, or just some sort of tea that I don't really drink. I would appreciate the effort, but understand that they probably didn't know what kind of my tea I liked

I hate the idea of regifting with a passion. If it is something tea-related, at the least I will use less than good teas for iced tea or it will sit in the back of my drawer until I realize that I would never drink cheap jasmine flavored teabags, which then get thrown out. I would never give them to other people though.

This morning, I am enjoying some sort of Nilgiri sample from kymidwife. I am not sure which one since I grabbed a tin of one of them out of my drawer this morning while it was dark and I wasn't fully awake yet. Either way, it tastes good enough to get me through the day until I can my Adagio order, which supposedly arrived at 9:03 this morning at the school post office. Now to wait until they sort the boxes out....

We'll see what happens this Xmas now that my family knows I like tea.

Actually, I would only re-gift if I knew there was another person that enjoyed tea. Then again, I could probably enjoy the gift because I might be curious about the variety of tea I was gifted.

long jing and chai

by jasonowalker » Dec 3rd, '08, 10:59

long jing today- many people describe a nutty taste, but it is actually more of a wild rice element

the last couple of days was homemade chai. I put in too much tea and boiled away too much water. My jittery nerves are appreciative of the lower caffeine dose today.

on the subject of gifting

by jasonowalker » Dec 3rd, '08, 11:03

I find a pu er cake can be a useful gift- if they want to drink it, you can highlight the health benefits.

If you give to the new drinker/novice and he/she doesn't like it, you can tell them that the cake improves in taste and value as it ages.

This way, the receiver feels good whether the cake is used or stowed away. :D

Oh yes. I made a nice fuss over it when I got it. Days later, after they'd returned home to another city, I decided to leave it with my mother when I had too much in the suitcase... but like I said, I never know what Mom might have told them (a nagging worry). Gee Christmas is fun! :D

edit: PS Puerh cakes do indeed sound like a nice idea for those who will like them. They also can be wrapped beautifully in some festive papers from some teahouses.

I try to "graciously accept" teas that I am offered but don't care for. Sometimes I keep them on hand for visitors who may enjoy them more. However, most of my unwanted teas (almost always tisanes) make their way to the "please take" area of the office kitchen, where my coworkers consume them with terrifying alacrity.*

Few people give me teawares. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not; my tastes are unpredictable (even to me), so if someone tried to guess, they'd guess wrongly more often than not. I did receive a lovely wabi chawan from a friend who knows I like the potter who made it; but when I unwrapped the chawan, it turned out to have a huge crack in it - my friend hadn't protected it in bubble wrap (it was only in a wrapping cloth), and the chawan must have sustained a blow at some point when she was carrying it about in her huge handbag. Still not sure what to do with that one... can't regift it, can't really use it, but it's such an attractive piece that I hate to throw it out. OTOH, it's a sad reminder of its uselessness every time I look at it. Sigh.

My bestest friend has an antique/gift/resale shop and she serves tea to her customers every day. I am able to give her all of the stuff I don't like. Works out well for both of us.
Today, I am having a Christmas tea blend and I think I will be regifting this one to her. YUK

In my work cup this morning - Adagio White Symphony
Tasting delicately sweet- reminding me of honeysuckle nectar.

Have a nice day everyone!
