Hi everyone!

Sorry for being absent for so long. Had a lot of stuff going on.

So much to catch up on here!

To the poll question, I'd have to say my sencha obsession is new to this year....mmm!

Have a great day!

This morning: Lupicia Fujieda Fujikaori Interesting stuff, not fully traditional sencha. A bit odd.

I've definitely expanded into new tea realms. Any Chinese tea was new for me this year. I'm starting to test the waters of oolong again this month.

the best of both worlds

As much as I LOVE tea (both hot and cold... not iced), I also love coffee. This year I found the best of both worlds. The Tea Garden in L.A. sells an oolong roasted in a similar process to coffee, mixed with roasted tea leaves and twigs combined with fresh essence of vanilla and vanilla blossoms that tastes just like coffee. Something to satisfy your coffee craving w/ the heath benefits of tea! :P

Yeah, I'ved tried a few new things this year. Most notably, I discovered that sencha, which I like well enough taste-wise, upsets my stomach so I can't drink it. I also tried Tie Luo Han and roasted TGY for the first time, and found them to be new favorites.

In my cup so far today: Irish Breakfast via Adagio. Soon, I think I'll brew up some Zhongshan Baiye, which I've had open for months now and should use up. Why is it that samples are often so much tastier than what you get when you order a larger amount? Oh, well.

Hi All,

I've always been a tea drinker over coffee. I've shyed away from herbal tea such as Celestial Seasonings because I just don't like them. This year has been a new adventure. I discovered loose leaf tea and have had fun trying everything that appealed to me. My among my favorites is a monkey picked oolong, adagios white silver leaf and white blueberry, then there are the jasmine oolongs. My sencha is really green tasting, but I keep going back to it.

I love hearing what everyone else is drinking. Helps me to plot my next adventure.

Boy, and to think I was afraid last year to spend $7 at Target last year for a canister of tea. How things can change!!! :D

I tried a lot of new teas this year. The unexpected one for me was the Nilgiris. I hadn't had any good luck with finding black teas that I really liked, but I fell in love with the two Glendale Nilgiris from TeaSource.

Currently in my cup is Adagio's Chestnut tea. I gave in and used my Adagio points to get the larger tin because I enjoyed the sample so much. I am going to make some sencha shortly to celebrate that, as of today, I am finally done with my undergraduate degree in mathematics and politics.

Charlotte, I don't drink herbal teas either. At least not by themselves. It just seems pointless to me. It's kinda like drinking decaf coffee or non alcoholic beer. LOL :D

Sitting here enjoying a big mug of Adagio Cha Cha herbal, I guess I'm just a pointless kind of guy. :(

Oh, wait! "The point" is that I like the flavors of lemongrass, chamomile, and mint! :)

Started the day with Yunnan Gold, though.

I've tried so many new teas this year, I've lost count. The budget is definitely out of shape, but who cares when you're having so much fun?

The Yunnan Gold is my favorite, but I also rate Teavana's (yes, Teavana's!
 ) Himalayan Majestic very highly.

Bob

I agree! All are welcome here! We are all united in our love of tea.

In my cup is a Christmas blend on hand here at the work station. Not all that good, but is getting better as it cools off.

As for the poll - that is hard to say. Before this year I drank Assams & Ceylons and Oolongs only. I never said to myself that statement - but yes, I have tried many new things, including new teas in every category. Unexpected tea horizons?
Yes, more than one, thanks to TeaChat.

As much as I enjoy trying new teas, I cannot think of a new horizon or a new tea type that I am surprised I have tried this year. I have tried a little more pu-erh I guess.

Started the TeaDay with Sencha Premier from Adagio. Sweetie was present for her share as always. Gandalf, Pyrit, Lil' Bit, TEAh, and Ceylon observed. Where was Wulong?

Some leftover home made mugi/genmai/sencha Overture from last night.

blah blah blah SENCHA blah blah blah!!!

This year represents the first time I tried gyokuro (merci bien, Olivier!) as well as a much broader range of Chinese greens and oolongs.

Not to mention a certain Georgian Old Gentleman :) Now that's exotic!

Last year at this time, I was getting really disillusioned with teabag tea, so everything I've done this year has been new to me! I've learned a ton but still have so much more to learn. I don't think I'll ever stop learning new things about tea, especially from the tea geniuses here on TeaChat!

The thing that surprised me recently is that I enjoy some green teas now that I have a clue on how to prepare them. Every other green tea (bag) I ever tried tasted like burnt grass.

Oh yes!! Chamekke, you reminded me - speaking of exotic!!! I forgot all about my trip to Hawaii and getting to try HAWAIIAN grown tea. That was something I never expected to get to try - even more unexpected to get to go there and try it right on the plantation owner's porch!

Bob, I did not mean to offend you or hurt your feelings. That is just my personal preference and view on tea. If someone shares my view point, great! If not, that makes them no less of a tea lover than I am. Unless maybe they never drink true tea, then by definition they are a tisane lover :D
