Matcha is probably my favorite tea to shut out the world and focus on the "ritual" of making a bowl. I agree with Sal, its very easy to like.

Also, this is off topic, but I love your Tea Dog Drax!

o-cha ken says arigatou! :D

I had my third bowl of matcha today, and I think I got the preparation just right today. I used two very "normal" scoops. I think I could even go to 1.5 scoops.

Now I think I'll go start my exercise routine before I try to leap out of my skin.

Congratulations, it sounds like you got it right!

Actually, matcha makes me feel very relax and alert rather than jittery.

motcha is nice and it's healthy too. I know some asian countries will use it for Ice cream and it tastes good.

That's a good way to put it. I didn't feel shaky, but very alert.

Like hair falling from a flea's head alert.

I saw a couple of recipes for making green tea from matcha (one that requires an ice cream maker and doing it from 'scratch', and another that just mixes matcha into soft vanilla ice cream), so I may just have to give that a try. . . .

Matcha is so easy to use in recipes. Ice cream sounds really good. I bet yogart would be interesting as well.

Where can I get Matcha?

by Lillian2009 » Feb 5th, '09, 01:20

Hello, I just had my first drink of Matcha at a local juice bar, and I LOVED it. He mixed one teaspoon of Matcha with one very small (think espresso cup) of soy milk. Anyway, I want to purchase this tea powder, but I do not know from where? If anyone could help me, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks...Lilly

That sounds very cool. I will have to try some matcha sometime. Wouldn't It take a while or be a hassle to use the and tools and what not though. Does matcha have more of a grassy taste or a different one?

Has anyone tried green tea lattes with matcha from settle's best and starbucks? Are they good? Do they taste the same or different? I hope I am not being rude with the questions and what not?

I've tried matcha latte that I've done myself and it was nice, though nothing like doing it "for real".

Lillian2009: Search for Matcha on the net and you will find lots. You may very well buy a food grade if you want it for latte, they are cheap. Good luck!

Here's one place to try (well, at least, we discuss the vendor here).

O-cha, Ippodo are other common vendors for matcha. Well, "common" in the sense of "used frequently" sense.

The Starbucks green tea latte is very sweet (too much so for my liking) and has a strong fruity flavour. I did not care for it, although your mileage may vary. Never tried Seattle's Best.

I do like the matcha latte by Blenz, a coffee franchise in British Columbia. They make it either sweetened or unsweetened (and the sweetened one is not too much so), and the matcha they use is very good. So every once in a while I'll treat myself to one when I'm downtown.

I ordered from the japanese green tea shop and picked up one of their starter kits (a bowl, whisk and scoop).

Then I got as starters:

Organic Uji Matcha Yuuki Konjo 40g (Organic Matcha)
Organic Uji Matcha Yuuki Midori 40g (Organic Matcha)
Drax, have you tried the Konjo yet? They have a Konjo starter set on eBay for $25 including shipping.

I see you haven't gotten a reply yet and just tried the Konjo for the first time after a couple of bowls of Yame (also from Yuuki-Cha).

I liked it a bunch. It tasted rather similar to the Kiri no Mori from O-Cha, with a smoother texture.

Yeah, sorry about that, I forgot I was the one who started this thread! heh...

But I have not tried the Konjo yet, it's still waiting in the fridge. I went straight for the Midori and I still have a week or two before that's gone.
