I've never knowingly had Korean tea. Upton lists one Korean green, Jung Jak, and they sell a 9gr sample for $5.80 (90gr box is $46.80); it's a little pricey for an unknown. Hankook is good to know about, too.
I'm having a light tea day today -- so far only one 12oz pot of TGY. Yesterday was heavenly, but it will be a while before I drink that much tea again.

Never had it but would be willing to try.
I had some gyokuro but messed up the brewing
and some Adgio #40 oolong which was nicer but didn't seem to be as tasty as I made it yesterday.
I think my beginners luck is over- at least I have a snow day today to practice!!
I think I'll try reinfusing the gyokuro later this afternoon.

Now that is something I never thought of. Barley oolong.auggy wrote:My Teacuppa order came in yesterday, so that was a nice surprise. I'm drinking their barley oolong right now - and when they say it tastes like sweet corn, they aren't kidding!
I have tried Korean tea and "tea" pretty many times. A Korean friend always made "tea" and I recently was able to try actual Korean tea from Hankook. Yesterday, in honor of the new year, I ordered some Korean green and oolong from them. I am anxious to try it again.
Started the TeaDay with Adagio Sencha Premier, semi English style brewing. Joined by SweeTea who liked it this way and Gandalf who just drooled, but not about the tea.

Eww morning breath!auggy wrote: No tea yet this morning. I'm on a self-imposed ice delay for work today so I haven't even brushed my teeth before hitting TC (I got up about 10 minutes ago and have been checking the weather since then).
No Korean teas for me thus far. At some point probably.
This morning: Ippodo Hosen. mmmm
I got mine yesterday too - may I asked when you placed the order? I placed mine on Jan 1, and paid $14 for express. It took 25 days and I'm not too happy about that. Not to mention they used to always send samples. I haven't gotten a sample in my last 3 orders now. Sorry to say, but I am done with them.auggy wrote:My Teacuppa order came in yesterday, so that was a nice surprise. I hope you got the "yellow" oolong tea. The other two oolongs they list on their site are actually from Taiwan or China. Awhile back I went looking for Korean oolong and Hankook was one of the first places I found. At that time they only offered the two non-Korean ones.Chip wrote: I have tried Korean tea and "tea" pretty many times. Korean oolong is a little bit elusive. The first stuff I actually found was heavily roasted, twiggy and just, well ... OLD. Next I found Shan Shui Teas - they have two Korean Oolongs Woojeon Cheongcha Goryeo & Tukseon Cheongcha Goryeo, both Spring '08 oolongs. They were ok - but not great. And pricey to boot.
The tea I got form Hankook on Saturday is definitely the best Korean tea I have had to date. Quite enjoyable.
What does it taste like?

Would you please describe the flavor? What is the name of the variety you purchased from Hankook? Thanks!

From the Hankook site: "Camelia sinensis that has been oxized about 3/4 (three fourth) of the way. Commonly referred to as "yellow tea", Hankook Tea Corporation uses only young tea leaves, cultivated with abundant experience and care, you can experience the exquisite taste and scent from this tea."
As for describing it - hehe I will have to wait till I have it again - I have had too many since then and currently am enjoying a black at the moment. Kinda like trying to think of the name of a song while another song is playing.
It was sweet and mellow. I have a lot of tea and wasn't planning on buying any on Saturday's trip - but I bought that one.
