Hummm how many miles is it from Oahu to the Big Island?
Last year I flew from Honolulu to Hilo to visit a tea plantation and taste Hawaiian grown tea. I have no idea how many miles.
In my cup this morning - FF Darjeeling - Mountain Dew
Have a nice day everyone!
I live about 50 miles from Harney's
If you go in the middle of the week when it is slow,
you can taste whatever you want.
Last time we started with a flight of 4 white teas:Ceylon silver Tips,Chinese silver needle, Bai Mei, and Mutan.
Then 4 chinese green: Chun Lu,Dao Ren Mao Feng, Jin Sha,Anji Baicha.
Then finished with 4 Japanese greens:Kagoshima,Matsudo's Sencha,Ichiban sencha,
and Tencha.
at that point I had palate fatigue, like at a wine tasting.
I bought a tin of ichiban sencha, Singell 2nd flush darj,
and Anji, spent about 100$ and got to talk tea with knowlegable folks.
Drinking Dao Ren Mao Feng presently....

I am too lazy to arrange any traveling above 100mi just for tea. But it's always fun to integrate tea-related side trips. Now I really want to visit some tea places in Shan Dong, China. But I am thinking hard for a more formal excuse (other than tea) to go there

I had to vote for less than 100 - the farthest I've gone is about 55 miles. But then I go 20 miles to get to the good grocery story so that distance isn't really a big deal. Anyway, it was for a neat little shop outside of Dallas that I found online (maybe on TC?). It wasn't overly special but it was nice and I got some teas that I enjoy. I'll probably go back if only because it is nice to occasionally be surrounded by tea-things in person vs. online.
More barley oolong this morning. DH doesn't like it because it very much has a sweet corn taste to it. Of course, that is why I like it so. Anyway, since I'm waiting for the ice to melt before I attempt the drive to work, I have enough time for multiple brews.

Jason, that made me laugh. But that muscadine flavor is what got me into Darjeelings so I'm with you!JasonC wrote:Darjeeling #22 from Adagio in my cup right now, I just got a new batch of tea in, and oh my goodness, I am really enjoying this tea! GRAPE MONSTER!! RAWR! I have never had a Muscatel grape, but to me the taste is very reminessent of a type of grape I have had, called a Muscadine(Mus-Key-Dine is how I've always pronounced it..) This is a really cool tea, totally blows away any Darjeeling I've ever had in a tea-bag. There simply is no comparison.
Can you share a link or info on the tea plantation? I was on the Big Island last year and hate that I missed it!Victoria wrote:Hummm how many miles is it from Oahu to the Big Island?

I'm new to this chat and would have guessed that there would have been many more road trips esp for tea.
I sometimes go to Teaism either in Dupont Circle or downtown (Washington dc) just for tea and that would be under 20. I can get some Rishi at my Whole Foods- the rest has been internet. I did use the teamap to try to find a tea place in Gettsyburg last weekend- DH and I drove thru there to get to a beer bar.
Brewing some Adagio Ali Shan.

Nope, not specifically
Have always bought my tea through the web or while on business travel. I responded with 'less than 100', because like Auggy, I have to travel about an hour one-way to shop at the nearest large retail hub that offers drinkable loose-leaf teas.
Harmutty Estate in the cup. About time to try a few new Assams.

I've travelled perhaps a maximum of 5 miles in my city to buy tea in person (it's not a huge town). Otherwise, I mostly buy it via the Internet - or from friends who travel to Japan and pick some up for me.
On the other hand, if we're counting tea events, I've travelled up to 100 miles to attend a couple of those.

Less than 20 miles, if you don't count travel to a specific city. We travel a lot in the summer, and while in a new city I'll look up a new tea vendor or tea room to try.
Keemun Ensemble in the mug this morning. It's ok.

I would say anything from Japan, sencha especially. Just my gut talking though.shogun89 wrote:Ah, A nice winter storm has brought me no school today. Though I do have a cold, was wondering if anyone has any tea cold remedies? I know alot of people use matcha, but what else? Thanks.
Enjoy the day all!
Last May Adagio flew Mary and me to Vegas for the World Tea Expo, drank lots of tea, got lots of tea and teaware. Just over 2500 miles one way. It was a very rewarding experience.
Can I say thanks again to Adagio for this opportuniTea

Started the day with a premo blend of gyokuro, mostly Kame from O-Cha. I had this blend 2 days in a row, this could spoil me. SweeTea is spoiled as well, and lots of observers including Gandalf, Pyrit, Honi Belle ... and the Lil' Bit!
Snowy here too, wet and very heavy, ugh.
blah blah blah SENCHA blah blah blah!!!
Whenever I have colds, it always seems to be centered in my throat, which gets very sore. I've found that very hot and very strongly brewed black tea seems to soothe it for quite a while (or possibly numb the nerve endings). YMMV, of course, but it might be worth a shot if your throat is sore. Even if it doesn't work, what's not to like about a remedy like that? Win/win!shogun89 wrote:Though I do have a cold, was wondering if anyone has any tea cold remedies? I know alot of people use matcha, but what else?
Also, champagne sipped from a teacup is of course most effective against everything.
Good day everyone! Very slushy here on LI.
Farthest I've traveled would be less than 10 miles to the mall for Teavana. That was a month ago when I started my tea journey. Since then I've only bought online.
Started the day with a flavored black tea blend, and now I'm on some Matevana. Will have to wait till I get home from work for some green.
