ugh. I can't get past smelling it. It smells like a campfire smells when you use really pitchy firewood.

Well the smell is bad true, but like some puerh, you have to get past that
and try to enjoy the flavor.

I think we have a winner! I've never tried Lapsang Souchong either, and from what I hear (read) the harsh smokiness mellows after a bit of age. I'll try to find a real one from Wuyi Shan, too.

I've tried guricha and wasn't terribly impressed by it. I did only try one, but still, meh. Now Lapsang... THAT has real character. :D

lol u guys have never tried lapsang? i procured some from the new haven, ct teashop that introduced me to good loose leaf in 2004... i think they had the same supplier as specialteas.com, altho it appears they don't have it in stock.

It was aite, not nearly as bad as Pu!! i'm not sure my tea taste buds were developed enough to appreciate it tho...

I've tried Lapsang Souchong before. Wasn't crazy about it (FWIW).

As with many of us it sounds I've tried Lapsang, but again like many of us it was a cheap lapsang. It makes me wonder if good lapsang is better.

Explore new horizons! (And this way none of us will be stuck with much if it's still terrible at higher grades)

Alright, I found two that look pretty decent: Organic Lapsang Souchong from Teaspring (Supposedly this one has a less intense smoky character) and Lapsang Souchong from The Tea Gallery. If any of you know that one or the other isn't that great, please let me know!

I am now taking names-- even if you have already expressed interest in this thread, please do so again (some of the responses earlier were more like maybes than solid affirmatives).

Hmmm, why do I feel like I am hanging with friends a "pretending to smoke" as a kid by accepting.

Like many of us, my only LS was a box of Taylor bags when I first started drinking tea 10 years ago. I guess I should give the real stuff a shot. I won't promise to like it though, but this is about trying new teas after all. 8)
