This was asked around a year ago, but we have a lot of new members and I think even many of us are continuing to change. So, are your teacups, the ones you actually use, getting bigger, staying the same, getting smaller?

A little smaller here. My typical steep used to be 8 - 10 oz but is now 6 - 8. Slight difference.

Spearmint and cream for me today. I'm still a tiny bit nauseous from yesterday so something with mint was the way to go this morning.

Forgot to share yesterday but Monday night my parents and cousin stopped by. We all had some pre-dinner tea while the meat was cooking. I felt all hostess-y getting to serve everyone tea and will now always smile when I think of my tough, good ole boy cousin sipping tea English style out of one of my tea cups (I did try to give him the manliest one, but it still had flowers on it - but they were onion flowers).

BTW, he liked the tea. :)

Because I started using a gaiwan this year, I suddenly became much more interested in small cups :D

I'd have to say that yes, this year I'm drinking from smaller cups where leaf teas are concerned. No change in my habits for drinking matcha, though! Since the chawan is both a mixing bowl and a serving bowl, you really can't reduce its size too much. (With the exception of the chawan-s used in nodate and chabako sets, which are slightly smaller due to portability requirements.)

My cups got smaller in the first year or so of drinking tea, but have now stabilized in size. For gong fu they are small but not tiny, around 3 ounces. For sloshing down quantities of the good stuff, they are six or seven ounces. The one below falls into the smaller category.

I picked other. Which looking back I probably should have picked "Stayed the same." I didn't really read the "ones you actually use" part from Chip. Heh, The ones I use are staying around the same! When I western brew a breakfast tea in the morning I'll usually just use a regular 16 oz mug. Though now that I've been doing a bit of sencha, I'll brew 6 oz into two 4 oz cups. The reason I chose other at the time was because even though I usually stick to those two choices, if I see a nice cup anywhere whether it be bigger or smaller, sometimes I just can't help myself ya know? ;) Haha.

Irish Breakfast in the mug for this morning! Annnnd relating to yesterday's post, I got a little distracted and oversteeped it a tiny bit :( Oh well, It's still pretty good! Hope everyone has a great day!

My typical cup is smaller this year. My usual is 3.5oz with 40ml cups for gong fu and an 8oz cup for black tea, and sometimes I use a 16oz travel cup.

I tried O-Cha's Yame Gyokuro last night; it was the second gyo that I have tasted. I brewed 80ml in a small kyusu at 130-140F. It was very different from what I was expecting. It was delicate with hints of spinach and kale and with the freshness, the palate-cleansing quality, of lemon. Does that sound right? I was expecting a noseful of seashore at low tide, but this was dramatically different.

Finished last night with Jing's everyday dancong. Started this morning with Mem's Organic Wuyi Oolong.

:lol: Glad it was a better experience than expected. Keep experimenting, this is a good one to experiment a bit with since it is rather affordable.

I also had a Yame Gyokuro, but it was from Zencha and cost 2X the price. I also mixed some "sweet gyokuro I had received from Sal, and it improved the taste and aroma. SweeTea certainly enjoyed the improvement, while there was a parade of passerbys including Pyrit, Gandalf, Precious, TEAh, Lil Bit, Koi, and Wulong was shoulder top. :D

Last time around when I asked this, I alsmost always used around a 90 ml (3 ounce) cup. Now the average is still around 90 ml, but the range has greatly increased with the introduction of smaller and larger cups. I am enjoying the variety ... maybe I was in a rut?

I like fairly large cups..

There was this guy at tea shop who favored drinking in cup as large as a rice bowl, I thought it looked cool.

Ah! So this gyokuro has training wheels. I will continue to experiment with it. I have been eyeing the Yame senchas and gyos from Zencha too -- I was going to wait before getting even more tea but I might have to make an exception for this.

I would say my cup size has gotten smaller. I went from drinking only 10oz mugs of tea to useing a 100ml gaiwan with 3.6oz cups and some cups that are less than 2oz.

I still use the 10oz mugs and Im looking to order a glass teapot thats about 12oz so If you ask this question later I wont know what to say.

About the same for me. For tastings I use a standard cup size (my hotarus from Lupicia) and drinking otherwise tends to be largish mugs/cups.

Blended Yunnan Jig and Golden Monkey. Was pretty good, not sure whether or not I really did a good thing though. May not have really done anything too drastic flavorwise with the amounts I used.

Having a smaller resteep right now, then maybe some dragonwell or sencha overture...
