Hehe, I wouldn't go that far. One key thing to remember about shincha is that it has a prime shelf life shorter than regular sencha. So I would think about how much sencha do you drink in a month, multiply that by 3 and then decide on a budget. From there it's easier to decide.ErikaM wrote:I'm wading through it now. Pretty much what I do, I prefer to use up shincha (according to plan) by around the end of July. If I have a stray bag floating around for a while, that is fine.Pentox wrote:Hehe, I wouldn't go that far. Kept in cold storage, it can theoretically last much longer, but my best experience is to use it up pretty quickly because not all shincha hold up well no matter what one does to preserve it. This makes it hard to try too many different shincha.
But after this, regular first flush (simply called ichibancha) that is harvested the same time is just about as good anyway.

Hey Pentox.
I was thinking of buying 10 then I decided that I wanna try shinchas from different vendor (which sucks for me since internation shipping fee from 5 vendors will normally cost me ~$50 CND).
I'll probably order 5bags of 10g temomi which will last me a good 3-4 months lol.
I blame on me and my tea blog for seducing me to buy this shincha
(which I believe, is written by you lol)

yeah 10 is a bit much. I'm very excited to try out the new shinchas from SA. This is the first time around in shincha season after having tried out SA. Temomi definitely is not a regular drinking sencha, very special occasion kinda stuff. (Unless you're filthy rich I guess).ryux wrote:Hey Pentox.

Temomi is definitely very expensive tea. In fact I think it's one of most expensive ones I've ever seen (more than some of gyokuro). It's probably gonna be my once a month kinda thing.
I was hoping you can give us some insight into the new shincha from SA with your experise, but since this is the first time they are offering, it's a mystery to all of us! haha
by the way, I love your blog. I hope you can touch more on matcha later on though.

I edited my message with the new additionsiannon wrote:looks like actually 20.95..for 100g? also showing their kago and fukamushi pre-order stuff too..
so..me being fairly new to the higher end stuff and all..whats the comparison of these from ocha to the temomi at what...8 or 9x the price??
Temomi is a very special tea, hence the high price. From now until April 21, 2009 (or while supplies last), order any 2009 Shincha and receive $2.00 off automatically upon checkout for each item!
My favorite from ocha is the Kirameki as I prefer asamushi (light steamed) sencha. Htasumi was a little bit tricky to brew last year.
No comparison to Temomi. O-cha's selections are good, they're the shincha versions of their regular products, so they have that freshness and flavor of a shincha. But in the end they're like the normals. Temomi is temomi. It isn't easily compared to because it is quite unique.iannon wrote:

Can't wait for the Kirameki and Yutaka Midori, better place that pre-order soon. Those two were simply amazing last season.olivierco wrote:ocha

I know O-Cha, it is more a reserving a spot for position, first come, first served. Kirameki is one that could sell out since it is more of a limited edition.danibob wrote:oooh, this is my first shincha season.I plan on ordering from o-cha. Maybe a few others. Any idea how fast these pre-orders sell out? I need to wait a bit for some funds.
So, if you reserve, you will simply be ahead of the rush at the door come actual shincha time, you will get yours first.
Other vendors will sometimes sell out of certain offerings. But you are generally OK for a while with at least 90% of the shincha offerings coming out before shincha.
blah blah blah SENCHA blah blah blah!!!
