I've just about reached the end of my first session of the Mao Feng. I went with Chip's recommendation of 1g/oz. It was really wonderful, reminded me just a bit of my favorite bi luo chun, but bright and sweet, no astringency at all, and just a hint of the nutty flavor I like so much. Very delicious. I went 5 steeps, and I'm going to do one last long one to see what results.
Moving on to a darjeeling next I think.

Margret's white tea was decent. I used a lot of leaf in a Gaiwan. It was good. None astringent nor bitter. I liked the citrus notes at the end.
Don't always believe what you think!

Still not there? It's been a week now. If it doesn't arrive in the next couple days, I will remail.Victoria wrote:<pouting> Hopefully tomorrow it will arrive!!
I made the Mao Feng Chip-style tonight with 1 gram to 1 oz and it is still very delicious and light, but not a dramatic difference in general presentation. The stronger version has a thicker mouth feel, a little more acidity, and a little stronger version of that super-clean taste alternating floral and vegetative. I'm wondering if it is worth using 3 times the leaf to get a result so similar.
The more I drink high end greens, the more I see them as more ethereal versions of their lower grade brethren. The ultimate Chinese green must taste exactly like the water it is brewed in.
I am sending Gingko a set of these things tomorrow. I am curious if she will have any comments in TeaDay since she is quite the Chinese green tea hound.
It arrived today!! I have no idea why so slow, but my regular mailman has been off.
Unfortunately it arrived too late for a taste, but I'll be brewing up some for breakfast!
Thanks again!

Actually, that's pretty much true all around -- the better the green, the lighter it taste.Salsero wrote:Still not there? It's been a week now. If it doesn't arrive in the next couple days, I will remail.Victoria wrote:<pouting> Hopefully tomorrow it will arrive!!

My package just arrived yesterday - many thanks, Salsero!
Now can someone just remind me... what is the FF tea exactly? Is that the "10 grams of Puttabong (Tukvar) sftgfop Dj-7, a first flush Darjeeling"?
Also trying to remember what sftgfop stands for. I can't read the word fop without thinking of the Scarlet Pimpernel, who was the fop di tutti foppi.
{consults Google. what did we have before Google?} OK, says here it's "Special Finest Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe". Or "Surely Far Too Good For Ordinary People".
Never mind!
chamster,

Waited for a week to let the tea rest from the trip. Finally tasting this 2009 fresh Mao Feng Yellow Mountain on a beautiful Sat. afternoon. My first Chinese green of the year, and its rewarding! Thanks Sal

Brewing it West lake/Korean mountain style. Floral! Nice light sweetness and Jasmine like aroma. Meaty and fresh like spring blossoms, a cross between korean Jiri tea and Jade snail spring.

Around 90 degrees water, consistent brewing every half of the bowl. Such a nice welcoming start to a brand new season. Enjoying and grateful.
